Does anybody know if this is allowed. DD1 says all her friends are going back but I don't think they're supposed to. I suppose they can't be stopped though?

@Horsemad @VanCleefArpels
Thank you both! To benefit from the no detriment policy we had to pass last year. I completely understand as we’re governed by a professional body and standards need to be met.
I’m mostly worried about practical exams which will be in person but we haven’t started the teaching yet as usually it’s spread across the year.

I have to attend uni so I’ll be 200 miles from home but my boyfriend isn’t on a course that’s allowed to return and we live together (but he’s home with family for Christmas which is 200 miles away from uni in the opposite direction to my home). I haven’t seen him for a month and likely won’t for a while longer as we don’t want to break rules. We didn’t see each other for 14 weeks (I think) during the first lockdown.

I guess I can bubble with some friends but many are commuting in on the days we have practicals so are spread across households so it might only be 1 friend in reality.

I’ll get through it, it’s just crap. Multiple friends have told me they feel suicidal and it’s so hard to help from so far away. I’ve already lost 2 friends to suicide whilst at school and I I’m doing my best to not lose any more.

I know I sound selfish. I’m not complaining about the “time I’ve lost” or gyms being shut etc etc. I know why we needed to lock down and why measures were put in place but it’s terrifying seeing all my friends lose their spark.

If you are in private accommodation I don’t think there’s any reason why your boyfriend can’t move in with you?

It is so harsh Student i really hope you get some clarification soon. I recommend speaking to your uni about the troubles you are having and make sure you get any help that is on offer.Cake

Definitely speak to student support And I hope it all works out for you

More generally it is interesting how little chat there has been about the students going back compared to the furore in September

Anecdotally it seems that positive tests results on students returning home were very low

I got an email from my uni a couple of days ago basically saying ‘sit tight’. The labs are open for STEM research students on a rota basis and we can book a slot at the library if there’s any material not available online.

Otherwise we’ve been asked not to be on campus for now.

Good luck to the students out there. It is hard for you. And for the parents of students.
