20 something relative just posted about a new business venture in travel, arranging travel and getting a commission. It didn't sounds like a new job but something she is managing. Lots of family members responsed keenly. Just worried it sounded like a MLM but not sure if it works with travel?

Are MLMs really bad?

@notimagain I have it on VERY good authority that ABTA were bribed by senior Inteletravel/PlanNet Marketing directors to accept IT membership. Something that is now regretted.

If a company expands its numbers during a period of job losses due to a pandemic that has forced any almost total shut down of the tourist industry, is that company’s rising profits because it’s selling travel in a pandemic or recruiting people who have lost their jobs in a pandemic 🤔. Sounds like the latter to me … pyramid scheme!

I know someone who was a home working travel agent before covid. No idea if it was mlm. However, come covid, she was on her own, commissions being clawed back and having to work her arse off with refunds and rebooking. Of course, this is a badge of self employment, but its still a scary time in my mind to be taking on potentially risky work in an industry where covid may continue to impact.
