As I the only one who gets suddenly motivated after Christmas to organise the house? Feeling excited at the thought of a visit to the tip today even 😄

I need to sort DD2’s room as she’s got into make up (mainly special effects type stuff which is really messy!) and art and stuff like Sylvanian families aren’t getting played with anymore.

She’s not ready to part with them so I am planning to put them in the loft for now as that feels kinder than forcing her to sell them.

She’s grow out of so many of her clothes too.

I LOVE the post Christmas clear out ! So cathartic. And there’s nothing else to do so might as well crack on. I’m starting today in the kitchen.

Figmentofimagination · 27/12/2020 09:24

I've just ordered some more storage boxes for DS's new toys. I'm itching to get them organised instead of just throwing stuff in random boxes.

I love taking the Christmas tree down around NYD as I like to start the new year with a clean and tidy house. Unfortunately/fortunately we have a house viewing on the 2nd so Christmas is staying up a couple more days and I'm just cleaning round Christmas instead.

Oh, and I've just ordered DS a load of new clothes in the sales in the next size up. Really itching to get his drawers sorted now but then he would have nothing to wear until the new clothes arrived 😂

North East we have to book an appointment for the tip, but its so well organised when you get there; quiet, all car spaces separated and so much better than it used to be. Hoping it stays like this in a way.

You’re all motivating me! I love the period between Christmas and New Year for thinking about the year ahead and getting organised. We’re tier 3 but don’t have to book the tip but the queues are massive!

I'm getting started today. Antihistamines have been taken. Builder's mask has been located. Grin

It's not just Christmas though. In any moment of crisis, high stress, or general existential angst, I am usually to be found whirling around the flat like a dervish, black bagging and decluttering anything that isn't bolted down.

There are few ills in life that can't be at least partially assuaged by Marie Kondo-ing the crap out of one's house, I think.

Champagneforeveryone · 27/12/2020 10:55

I feel like this, but am currently still in bed. I have resolved to get out at 1100am and spend a couple hours cleaning and tidying. I've sadly got to the age where I actually rather enjoy it Grin

userxx · 27/12/2020 11:33

Didn't realise the tip had to be booked, I'm in tier 3 and it's open as usual, probably queuing for miles though.

HunterAngel · 27/12/2020 15:54

Yep! Planning a good clear out/tidy up when the tree comes down. DS has toys all over the place which need organising and some storage created if I ever want to see the living room carpet ever again.

ElfieElfington · 27/12/2020 20:04

I've recently been doing TOMM it was so nice not to have to do a big pre Christmas clean, I'll definitely be sticking to it.

I've been WFH since March and it's made such a difference, just being able to get a load of washing washed and dried during the day and empty the dishwasher at lunchtime.

Bloodhoundgang · 27/12/2020 21:14

Dump was empty today. First run complete. Run 2 approx tues morning.

Also need to work out what to do with a load of clothes and toys. Charity shops filled up round here about Oct and remained at capacity.

YouBringLightInToADarkPlace · 27/12/2020 21:27

I took a load to the tip today because I booked my 15 minute slot last week. The guy working there said there were hardly people booked in so I went home, packed the car up again, booked myself in for the next slot and took a load more.

Chuck chuck chuck.

BrutusMcDogface · 27/12/2020 21:43

You’ve all just inspired me to book a tip slot! Grin

1AngelicFruitCake · 27/12/2020 23:42

Fantastic! 😄 I’ve got a bin bag of clothes ready to go and I’m hoping to make a start on toys tomorrow.

I've joined our local freebie Facebook page and given all my charity shop donations away on there! So easy!
1AngelicFruitCake · 28/12/2020 12:57

Giving away on free cycle is a great idea.
I’ve just read a Facebook post that says you can only visit the tip once a week and I’ve been twice!
Hope everyone else still feeling motivated. Need to tackle my clothes this afternoon...Confused

Lots of messages today on our local FB page that the queue for the tip is over 1 hour long. Thank god I don't need to go today

RedRec · 28/12/2020 14:45

Don't have to book to go to the tip here (West Yorkshire, tier 3)

Els1e · 28/12/2020 15:38

You’ve all inspired me. I’ve done a tip run, sorted a bag of clothes to go charity, had a odd sock cull and sorted some books for the 2nd hand bookshop. Also started to put a couple of things to try and sell on gumtree or eBay. Feel like I’m doing a running start at 2021!

Bloodybridget · 28/12/2020 16:12

I haven't exactly decluttered, but DP did agree that we could get rid of most of the cardboard boxes that she has been inexplicably saving for much of this year. We are still having a gentle running argument about whether or not to keep the several unwanted and unusable Christmas presents we got. Guess which side I'm on!
