... I'm sat here drinking prosecco waiting for our Indian takeaway to be delivered. No stress, everyone happy.

I know most people love a Christmas dinner but my God, I prefer this kind of Christmas Day 😀

Sounds like bliss! I didn't know take-aways would be open!

NoProblem123 · 25/12/2020 15:49

I didn’t know the Indians are open xmas day!
I’d just always assumed they took it as a holiday.
I’m doing this next year for sure Grin

ReggieCat · 25/12/2020 15:50

I realised half an hour ago that the luxury veg selection I got from Sainsbury's needs to be cooked from chilled not frozen. The turkey I cooked last night has been tetrissed into the fridge for tomorrow.

I'm really looking forward to my fish finger sandwiches later this evening.

QueenPawPaws · 25/12/2020 15:53

@NoProblem123 we usually go to the actual restaurant on Christmas Day evening but being tier 3... they did all Christmas meals as takeaway
It's always busy too!

vanillandhoney · 25/12/2020 15:57

None of our local takeaways are open but we've had a very chilled day!

Lie-in, coffee, presents and off to the beach for a dog walk. I cooked, then we ate and DH cleaned up, and now we're sat on the sofa watching TV and working our way through a very large box of chocolates Grin

astuz · 25/12/2020 15:59

My DH cooked a full roast turkey dinner for him and eldest DD. I had a Thai takeaway and youngest DD had a curry - we're all very happy (DH loves cooking). We've done this for the last couple of years now and I'm much happier on Xmas day - I'm not sure I even realised how much I dislike roast dinners and for years I thought I had to have it on Xmas day because it's tradition - I think I kind of thought everyone else hated it as well really and everyone else was also just going along with it for tradition's sake?!

If we ever have visitors or if we go visiting then I'll get on and eat it, but if it's just the 4 of us, then the rule in our house on Xmas day now is we all eat our favourite food.

LindaEllen · 25/12/2020 15:59

There's so much pressure to do certain things isn't there! We kind of have in to it, but got to now (4pm) and I just said to DP go and play on the computer (he's got new games) and I'll mess about on my new iPad - we don't have to spend every second together when we're bored haha. Normally lots of people; and we spend every bloody day together this is no different!

Having our dinner later 😊😊

christmasathomeagain · 25/12/2020 16:01

If that's what you enjoy, go for it!

emilybev1986 · 25/12/2020 16:03

Presents.
A bit of 'a lie down'.
Zoom calls.
Pizza and prosecco.
Chocolate and gin.
Jingle Bells.

MessAllOver · 25/12/2020 16:08

Often the people who enjoy a turkey roast the most are those who aren't expected to cook it.

Bargebill19 · 25/12/2020 16:12

Takeaway pizza. An Apple turnover and chocolate. No washing up🤣🤣

Deathraystare · 25/12/2020 16:13

MrsJBaptiste

You can have what you like! I sometimes wish I could have just egg and chips but I am usually working and the cafes are closed. I am thinking to ordering Indian or Thai next Christmas when I can sort out this app business.

I am on my own so can eat what I please in theory.

Inthemuckheap · 25/12/2020 16:13

I'm loving it!

Stress free - DH and I have only just done presents. Did all the animals later than usual, had lovely late brunch and having a seafood platter this evening.

No family bust ups, no babies crying and family zoom done.

catlovingdoctor · 25/12/2020 16:18

Sounds great!!

diddl · 25/12/2020 16:18

Husband & kids did lunch, I went for a walk.

No stressGrin

HmmSureJan · 25/12/2020 16:21

When my children were smaller they wouldn't eat roasts so we used to go to the Lebanese restaurant a few streets away. Was amazing, kids had chips 😁. For a few years they had pizza and now they'll eat the Turkey and roast potatoes and a smidgen of veg if I am lucky - autism so sensory issues around food. They do like the idea of Christmas dinner now so I will do one but it was nice when I didn't have to despite the utter outrage of their grandparents that they wouldn't eat a roast!

Thatwentbadly · 25/12/2020 16:26

We had party food for lunch and soon the kids will be having spag Bol and DH and I are having pasta courgette and lemon sauce. We will do Christmas dinner tomorrow or maybe the 27th

Purplethrow · 25/12/2020 16:28

That sounds fabulous! I have cooked a full Christmas dinner today but it’s the first time in 27 years, we always go to my sisters and she loves to cook for us all but obviously this year has been different.
I bought everything ready made so shoved the turkey crown in for an hour to give it a head start and then put everything else in the oven at the same time . Stuffing was a bit burnt and the sprouts were soggy but I smothered it all in ready made posh gravy and it was lovely, if I do say so myself Grin .

Now slobbing on the sofa and trying to decide if I have room for jam roly poly and custard.

How lovely to hear everyone having a laid back Christmas xx

pastapestoparmesan · 25/12/2020 16:33

I find it so bizarre how invested some people get about what others eat. It literally couldn’t affect you less! On a special day, eat what you want and like. I’ve never had a Christmas dinner, but I’ve had dinner on Christmas day every year!

Marmite17 · 25/12/2020 16:34

Why not? Quite like Xmas dinner and have a lot of food which would go off so cooked it. Unreliable "friend" cancelled this morning- she knew that I'd already bought food, yesterday. It was just the two of us, so alone. She will no longer get lifts etc in the new year- selfish bitch.
Left to my own devices- first Xmas alone, would go for curry. Fortunately I like chicken so will be eating it for the foreseeeable future.

Purplethrow · 25/12/2020 16:36

I like hearing about all the different dinners people have had !

Mummyoflittledragon · 25/12/2020 16:36

We had a prebasted / stuffed turkey crown, premade potatoes, peeled Brussels and gravy pot so I only made roasted veg and chopped a few carrots for dd. I do like to eat a roast a Christmas. But didn’t have the energy to do it myself. The turkey was succulent for once. Yum.... deffo will do this in future!

rc22 · 25/12/2020 16:38

We had Christmas Dinner last night. We collected it from our local pub and heated it up. Today I had a cooked breakfast but have spent the rest of the day consuming nothing but g and t, crisps and peanuts!! Now having a cuppa and a mince pie. Best Christmas ever!!

MaryBoBary · 25/12/2020 16:44

I would do this too OP if I didn't love a roast so much. We've just had roast pork and then a blackberry and apple pie for dessert. Now I'm trying to see how much chocolate orange I can fit in before I feel sick.

PilatesPeach · 25/12/2020 16:46

Nice one! My M&S meal is in the oven and my veggies are steaming in the microwave, just going to have a glass of Sauv Blanc.

Do what makes you happy, this of all years!
