Panicked by man in the park

Tried to take 2 DC for a walk (GOD I HATE WALKS) today along a Christmas trail. It was awful as it was pissing rain, poor DC2 teething horribly and instead of being distracted was hysterical, DC1 lasted 10 mins then was wet cold and miserable. As we reloaded the car after our crappy time and I’m feeling bad as another ‘nice adventure’ has gone wrong this week the man loading his dogs into the car starts chatting to me ‘are you all ready etc?’ I said oh for Christmas? Nearly last few bits and need to pick up turkey etc. ‘No for Brexit and the imminent food shortages? Have you seen their stopping lorries in and out of the UK? We only have 7 days food supply here. Go straight from here to the supermarket and load up you need at least 3 months worth of food. Anything you don’t have 100 of already- GET. You might be saving your children, friends and families lives’. Got in his car and drove off.

I am not a panic buyer, I don’t subscribe to that doomsday negativity usually but honestly I cried the 20 minutes drive home (albeit sneakily so dc didn’t see). I’m scared in case he’s right. I’m so scared of the impact of this bloody virus and Brexit on our lives and my children. We have been in tier 3 forever and will inevitably go into tier 4 soon. I have seen my family twice this year. I have an almost one year old and 3 year old and recovering from severe PND. Today reminded me how hard lockdown all day everything with nothing to do was and now it’s likely January will be like that.

All that was going through my head was ‘i can’t do it’. Got home and burst into tears luckily DH is fab and wfh so sorted the kids.

Do I ignore the man? Is he right? When will things get better? The slog is relentless.

Sorry that there’s a million of these threads.

When I was about 11 I was walking home from school when some dingbat of a man ( clearly an ancestor of your dingbat OP) told me that Russia had just launched nuclear weapons on the US and we, the UK, was at war with Russia too . I ran home like a hare expecting to be caught in some global nuclear Holocaust. Of course nothing had happened. Some people are brain dead from the feet up.

On the basis of your OP, I would say you do subscribe.

COVID has definitely brought the weird conspiracy theorists out of their shells. It’s like their wet dream frankly.

I had a man in Sainsbury’s today tell me (unprompted) that we should collectively sue China and that there’s clearly a government set up as we have a new strain whilst China is disease free etc etc. All whilst wearing his mask under his chin of course.

Sounds like my MIL. Really, she's dear, but dotty as fuck on the subject of Brexit. Having voted for a fucking blue passport it herself, she now has her knickers and lingerie I never even heard for in a twist about her food shopping and her foreign holidays...
