So sad that the wonderful British treasure Dame Babs has passed away.

No sadness in this thread, there are other threads for this, let's celebrate Bab's best bits (ooo eerrr missus!)

What's your favourite tv, telly, theatre etc of our Babs?

I loved her in Carry On - very fond childhood memories watching her Sid, Kenneth et al and I'll always remember her wonderful laugh

Anyone else want to share their favourites too?.....

I met her too at at an event and she chatted to me and my husband for ages like we were old friends. She was really genuine, friendly and bubbly; exactly the same as her TV persona.

Hope you all enjoyed the fireworks... Goodnight!!
After she just outed Pat and Frank 😂

Seen some discussions on the telly about her today, everyone said what a lovely genuine person she was - she'll be really missed!
Lots of people genuinely really sad, myself included, I was tearful thinking about her a few times today - never even met her!

What I admire about Dame Barbara is that she really did start from nothing, and worked hard to achieve her stardom. She had no theatrical 'connections' - her mother worked overtime to afford to send her to the Aida Foster stage school - which she had to catch two buses to get to. When she started out, her accent went against her because everyone on stage was expected to be terribly posh. She had a lot of knock backs before she got her big break, but she kept on going - a classic example of someone who took many years to achieve 'overnight stardom' but once she'd got there, she was constantly in demand.

Lovely little film on the BBC with some of Barbara's songs in the background:

@WitchesSpelleas does her book detail much about the issues she had with Sid? I was thinking of buying the book.

WitchesSpelleas · 13/12/2020 11:35

@FAQs Yes, the book describes her affair with Sid and its aftermath in a lot of detail. I really do recommend it, it's a cracking read.

Thank you, I’m going to order it today.
