If you bought your dog when it was a puppy, how much did you pay, what breed is your dog and what year was this?

We’ve been wanting a dog for a long time now but had to wait years for us to have better jobs and a bigger house etc.
We are almost ready to add a lovely dog to our family but WOW the prices are really high.
People tel me this is due to lockdown or the time of year.
So I just wanted to gauge the prices of puppies in recent years.

Also on another note seeing how high they are makes me sad that people will take advantage of the amount of money to be made (example labradors in my part of the UK are £3,000, the average lab has 8 puppies- that’s £24k!)

@joanwinifred
I’m keeping my eye on the rescue pages daily but the dogs that come up are all ‘no children’ or ‘no other pets’ or the very few that do fit the Bill become reserved immediately.

Rescue dog in 2014,£150,he was 20 weeks old..Neutered,chipped,vaccinated,wormed and treated for fleas..Best money I ever spent.

I would never buy from a breeder,my dog is my third rescue dog.

Shiba Inu, June this year, £1,200.

MunchBunchYoghurt · 05/12/2020 18:40

Definite hike in price then.
Currently can’t get any breed for less than £2000
The breed that suits us the most is £3000-£3500 at the moment.

Toy Poodle in 2014 and paid £400. Id like a little friend for him but refuse to pay these ridiculous money-grabbing Covid prices. Got my eyes on a few rescue pages.

AlwaysBehindTheCurve · 05/12/2020 18:42

Beagle, £800 10 years ago.
Tried to rescue but they wouldn’t let us as we worked full time, even though DH worked from home 3 days a week and on the other 2 days he was dropped off with MIL while we were at work.

2014 - £900 Pug

Kay1341 · 05/12/2020 18:43

You'd better wait until things get closer to normal, alot of breeders aren't planning or advertising litters at the moment.

SmellsLikeAHamsterCage · 05/12/2020 18:45

Lab bitch February this year £650. She's not kc registered. Kc registered ones were about £1k when I was looking at the beginning of the year. Lockdown has definitely pushed up the prices.

@MunchBunchYoghurt

Have you thought about the Spanish rescue centre. I recently got our puppy from a rescue centre ( we live in Spain) but they are desperate for families and arrange transportation. There are several FB pages . Costa Blanca rehoming is one I know of .
