If you bought your dog when it was a puppy, how much did you pay, what breed is your dog and what year was this?

We’ve been wanting a dog for a long time now but had to wait years for us to have better jobs and a bigger house etc.
We are almost ready to add a lovely dog to our family but WOW the prices are really high.
People tel me this is due to lockdown or the time of year.
So I just wanted to gauge the prices of puppies in recent years.

Also on another note seeing how high they are makes me sad that people will take advantage of the amount of money to be made (example labradors in my part of the UK are £3,000, the average lab has 8 puppies- that’s £24k!)

King Charles Cross cocker in 2015. Cost us £400. Rescues wouldn't touch us as 3 children and a cat
Best money I've ever spent though

What about a Romanian rescue dog? About £450 and there are puppies available too. I know a couple of people with them and they are lovely dogs

Springer, pedigree with Champion lineage (that doesn't matter to me - just to set price in context). £800, 4 years ago.

Going against the grain to admit I paid 2k in August 2020 for a designer mongrel (jackapoo if you believe the marketing). Health tested parents, raised by a lovely family who kept one of the litter as a pet. I think I was very lucky to find them as friends are looking and have not been so fortunate (between scammers, puppy farmers).

I tried rescue but we have kids and two rescue cats. I also wanted a low shedder due to asthma in the family.

I think it's like the housing market, rule of supply and demand. No point denying it, they are worth what people will pay. The world of office work has changed forever, very few jobs will be 9-5, 7 days a week after this. Therefore more people have room in their life for the dog they always dreamed of. I hope the prices will make us think seriously before adopting a pet, but I see heartbreaking stories of idiots reselling pups after changing their minds online.

My doggo has saved my sanity and is earning his keep as my personal trainer and family therapist.

KC reg golden retriever, £600 in 2014. They're £2K+ now.

I dread the time when my boy is no longer here. I can’t imagine life without a GR, and probably can’t afford to buy a new one!

We paid £1000 for what we now know to be a Patterjack (Patterdale Terrier/Jack Russell cross).

We bought her in June this year.
