What would you spend £20k on?

I’ve won a competition and the first prize is £50k. It comes at a time of severe anxiety as I hate my job and I have fallen into quite a depression.

I want to do something amazing with the money but I’m really struggling. I have suddenly become tight and unable to spend it. FWIW I am 26, we have a mortgage but i won’t be using it for that. This is my once in a lifetime treat time.

I want to save £15k in case I lose my job.
£10k is for my wedding.
£5k is going on DP to get his teeth done and I need a cheap new runaround car as mine is dead.
That leaves £20k. I probably won’t be able to spend it all but what would you buy?! Ideas!!

Id go on a world cruise. Although the sensible option would be towards a deposit on a house

Although ‘things’ are lovely, I’d keep some aside to have a few lovely holidays, not necessarily extravagant ones, but still nice. When I think about what what makes me happy it’s memories and people/ animals I love, not ‘things’.

Although you should definitely get the cardi you’ve spotted Grin

I'd save it until I saw something I really, really wanted rather than just spending it because it's there.

With life as it is at the moment, unless I has something I specifically needed right now eg new washing machine. Or car as you have said, I would save it .

Wait until next summer when things are opening up properly again , maybe have a nice holiday .

But in current economic situation if you have money you can save as a safety net that's what I'd do, and I think that actively looking for something to spend money on at present is a bit foolish .

In fact having re-read your OP you could possibly look towards getting a new job you would enjoy , given you have a safety net for if you end up earning less or have to retrain.

If you’re into jewellery I wouldn’t think twice about getting the VCA piece - it’s so iconic and they really are beautiful, plus it’s only a fraction of your budget. If I were you I’d be straight off to Tiffany’s 😂 £20k would definitely make a dent in my wish list.

I would go onto an online dealing platform and buy some global equity balanced investment trusts with a 60%+ US weighting then sit on them for five years or so.

Definitely a car. I’m hoping to get one tomorrow as my 20 year old one is, in the words of my lovely mechanic, beyond fucked.
I would then pay someone to do the painting in my house, update the shower rooms (both have nasty mosaic tiles) and get the kitchen earlier than March
