Christmas looming and no family

Is anyone else dreading Christmas?

I have no living family and I’m not going to be in anyone’s bubble, so I’m looking at spending Christmas (and the surrounding days) on my own.

Since my last relationship ended I’ve been single. And while I’m sure some of friends will invite me to theirs when they find out I’m on my own, is there anything more depressing than feeling like a charity case? I’m feeling really anxious about the whole thing. While I kind of hate Christmas I can’t help feel sad that I’m not getting one. Anyone else feeling the same?

Op check out the Christmas board, there are some Xmas lonesome people on there who started threads... They may have a mumsnet Christmas day cafe 🎄🎄

@cwtchesandprosecco

Before my son, I spent Christmas for many years with friends, I never felt like a charity case because I happened to be single. I supplied the Baileys, posh chocs, peeled the spuds and played with the kids because they were fun to play with.
I’d assume if they are real friends then they are inviting you because they would like your company, not because they think they are doing you a favour.
If you are on your own, Sarah Milican does a twitter thing which might be good fun. I’ll be checking into it because we can’t travel to be with family and living and my son is 16 so permanently attached to his phone.

Thanks both. I’ll check out the Christmas boards.

With what a faff and effort hosting Xmas is, family dramas etc I'd say any invites are probably very genuine and you should take them up IF you want to. Flowers
