Knife I used kept by police (SH TW)

(Trigger warning for self harm)

My brother was arrested last night for several reason but for having a knife or being suspected of using one. Hes been released now under investigation.
They've kept his clothes, phone and a lock knife he had on him. I used this knife (unless he owns multiple) the day before to SH and only wiped clean with tissue.
I'm assuming as the knife was not to do with his arrest they will just dispose of it but worried they might test it and find my blood on it.
Does anyone know if that is likely or think I should tell someone about this?

sorry I meant he was not arrested for having a knife or being suspected of using one.

They won't DNA test the knife unless they have valid reason to do so

And even if they did, you would be able to prove the blood is yours and explain so your brother wouldn't get in to any further trouble

As above, but wanted to add:
Please get help if you haven't already. There is a way out. Take care x Flowers

I’m sure this is adding to your anxiety but DNA tests are fairly complicated and expensive and it’s highly unlikely they will do one unless they have real cause. ie they think he was involved in a known incident . I hope that you’re ok and getting some help around the SH . Sending a (((HUG))) for all you’re going through at the moment x

I understand you're worried about this OP and I appreciate why. But maybe this could be the point you try and ask for some help with your self harming? You don't need to hurt yourself to feel better or feel different, there are other ways to do that Thanks

LITHIUMcomeasUare · 27/11/2020 08:08

Not sure where you are but carrying a knife is pretty serious and you say not to do with the arrest so another reason for arrest. They may keep the knife as evidence for a while and may then dispose of.

You have nothing to worry about unless the knife was used in any crime by him.

Please get help for your SH

OrangeIsTheNewTwat · 27/11/2020 08:37

Please get help for self harming. And in the meantime, or if you can't control the urge, please don't share knives with other people, even your brother.

I'm sure your brother will be fine. As mentioned by PPs, DNA tests are expensive. The police wouldn't do one unless they thought he'd been involved in a specific incident, or violent crime generally.

goldielockdown2 · 27/11/2020 09:00

They won't test it.
However if they're investigating a murder or serious attack, they wouldn't necessarily think DNA matches of family or anyone living in the same household as the knife used is anything out of the ordinary, as it would be expected.

If this prompts you to try and get help for yourself then it's a positive. Thanks
