@Honeyroar

You can’t offer points for this theme when I just got the Victoria Cross for the last theme! 😡😡
Should've guessed the theme then, honey 🤷‍♀️
FlouncingBabooshka · 06/12/2020 21:56

So here’s a round up of the literary theme - what’s been identified (including the now controversial mega-bonus-points connections. Any outstanding I’ve added extra lyrics and/or clues...

90s
I rise as the morning comes
Crawling through the blinds
I shouldn't be up at this time
But I can't sleep with you there by my side
Wake up Boo by The Boo Radleys (Boo Radley - character in To Kill a Mockingbird)

80s
Reckless and so hungered
On the razors edge you trail
The Wild Boys - Duran Duran - takes its name from a William Burroughs novel.

60s
It's a dirty story of a dirty man
And his clinging wife doesn't understand
Paperback Writer - The Beatles

80s
Then I'd taken the kiss of seedcake back from his mouth
Kate Bush, Sensual World - based on Molly Bloom’s soliloquy from James Joyce’s Ulysses.

90s
All human life is here
From the feeble old dear to the screaming child
From the student who knows that to have one of those
Would be suicide
To the family man
Manhandling the pram with paternal pride
Song, band and link still to be identified so extra lyrics have been supplied

70s

Come see, come see, remember me?
We played out an all-night movie role
You said it would last, but I guess we enrolled
In xxxxxxx (Who could ask for more?)
Xxxxxxx (Who could ask for more?)
I'm looking for a vehicle, I'm looking for a ride
I'm looking for a party, I'm looking for a side
I'm looking for the treason that I knew in '65
Still to be indentified - clue - it’s an album track from a very famous male solo artist and @TwigtheWonderKid would have jumped on it if she still frequented the threads. Extra lyrics also given.

80s
New beginnings, new surroundings, new love
Another world to dream of
New beginnings, new surroundings, new love
It's a xxxxxx xxx xxxxx
Brave New World, Toyah

70s
let me grab your soul away
Kate Bush, Wuthering Heights

80s
It's been such a long week
So much crying
I no longer see a future
In Search of Peter Pan, Kate Bush

60s
Get your motor runnin'
Head out on the highway
Born to be Wild, Steppenwolf link is the group were named after the novel by Hermann Hesse

90s
You said that you'd never been
But all the things that you've seen
Slowly fade away
Oasis, Don’t Look Back in Anger - bonus link is the Joe Orton play, Look Back in Anger

70s
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Rocket man identified but how does this relate to the theme? Big bonus points up for grabs.

80s
Don't tell me you don't know what love is
When you're old enough to know better
When you find strange hands in your sweater
When your dreamboat turns out to be a footnote
I suspect this will be claimed instantly with those extra lyrics.

60s
So I lit a fire
Isn't it good
And this.
Norwegian Wood by the Beatles. Bonus points were awarded for knowing the book of the same name by Haruki Murakami.

60s
And my dear mother left me
When I was quite young
When I was quite young
On the Road Again by Canned Heat. Apologies to whoever got this - I don’t think I acknowledged it and can’t check back or I’ll lose this whole post. The link, of course, is the book On the Road.

80s
And I forget, I forget the movie song
Romeo and Juliet, Dire Straits.

80s
The fire still burns at night
My memories are warm and clear
But everybody knows it's hard to be alone at this time of year
Winter’s Tale, David Essex

The connection to the theme for Good King Wenceslas, O Little Town of Bethlehem and We Three Kings still hasn’t been posted, although @CoffeeBeansGalore* got a special mega bonus point award for coming up with a totally different connection. Each each one of these connects to the theme individually. Clue - it didn’t need to be these three, it could just as easily have been O Come All Ye Faithful, Away in a Manger and The Holly and The Ivy - or it could just be one of them or any other song of its type...

Isn't that the title of Elton John's Autobiography?
Or
Is it a book of history about astronauts?

And I'd also point out that I got no credit for the barbarella reference. Which was in written form before the film.

sulks

I Write the Book, Elvis Costello

Did you miss me?!

Hello @TwigTheWonderKid !! 😍😘

NeedToKnow101 · 06/12/2020 23:00

@FlouncingBabooshka - so obviously the book is 1984 (for an easy 1984 bonus points.) Grin

CoffeeBeansGalore · 06/12/2020 23:04

Hello @TwigTheWonderKid 👋

FlouncingBabooshka · 07/12/2020 00:04

Ah, @TwigTheWonderKid, we’ve been expecting you Grin. I used the Bowie signal to summon you...

Yes, 1984 and Everyday I Write the Book. 🌟

Sorry, @NeedToKnow101 but I’m not sure I can give a bonus point - the connection is just too obvious (also am starting to feel a bit scared of @ClearingSpaceOnTheTrophyShelf...)

Clearingspace - try not to be bitter about the bonus connection points - they are, by definition, only available if you get the connection. You should just take some pride in your role in elevating NeedtoKnow to her current lofty position - anyway, you know the expression ‘standing on the shoulders of giants’?

Re Barbarella, I didn’t know it existed as anything before it was a film and, to be fair, you didn’t say that when you offered it as a possible connection. You can have 100 bonus points. 😘

Not the Elton John autobiography Coffee (that was called Me) The film was called Rocket Man.

The literary connection is the thing the song Rocket Man was inspired by.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 07/12/2020 18:54

@FlouncingBabooshka I'm stumped then!

Totally understand @FlouncingBabooshka - I know exactly where you're coming from ...!
NeedToKnow101 · 07/12/2020 22:12

'The literary connection is the thing the song Rocket Man was inspired by.'

Wild guess .. is it Neil Armstrong's autobiography?

FlouncingBabooshka · 07/12/2020 23:18

It’s a really tough one. I don’t think anyone’s going to get it - apparently Rocket Man is a short story by Ray Bradbury and the song is based on the story.

TwigTheWonderKid · 07/12/2020 23:19

So have I missed anything exciting?

Honeyroar · 07/12/2020 23:48

Ooh of course! Couldn’t possibly tell you what though.

TwigTheWonderKid · 08/12/2020 20:14

You meany @Honeyroar!

CoffeeBeansGalore · 08/12/2020 22:03

Easy theme 😊

Hey little sister, what have you done
Hey little sister, who's the only one
I've been away for so long (so long)
I've been away for so long (so long)
80s

I should have told you all I wanted was to have some fun
(Have some fun)
But you wanted me to be the permanent one
(Permanent one) yes you did
1980s

Spring is here, the sky is blue
Birds will sing as if they knew
Today's the day, we'll say "i do"
And we'll never be lonely any more

Second one is Wedding bells, can't remember artist?

Theme weddings?

TwigTheWonderKid · 08/12/2020 22:44

The Wedding Bells one is Godley and Cream.
The last one is Chapel of Love by the Dixie Cups

CoffeeBeansGalore · 09/12/2020 10:09

@Fleamaker123 & @TwigTheWonderKid, Well done both. 👍😊
