I am bored, having a wine.

Reading some threads and I thought it might be nice to share the best tips or advice you have had on here.

Here are mine:

Ask for a variation on the cms calculator if they are self employed

Buy a duvet from John Lewis that can go in the wash whole with no duvet cover

Not to see dolphins at sea world or swim with them (I didn't know about their treatment and issues through being kept captive)

Endless recipes

Support when I've needed to vent and not be made to feel petty

Help with access arrangements or lack of them

Help with debt advice when my ex h left me in the shit and fucked off to the other side of the world and left me with a house he'd wrecked and I had to sell. I came off no better or no worse thanks to the advice on here.

An idiots guide to gender critical thinking and issues women face if we accept gender over sex

This is all I have for now.

Two that I picked up from MN literally this month:

Putting fabric softener in water for smear-free glass and mirrors.
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/4085323-Life-Changing-Cleaning-Why-Didnt-I-Know

The existence of M&S peanut butter with maple and pecan.

Perhaps @Calyx72 could share where she got her viking- that might well be the best MN tip Wink

But the peas under the mash? Close to genius!

Calyx72 · 21/11/2020 17:22

@nemeton it was Plenty of Fish! I had been divorced and single for over 2 years and went on to find people to go to gigs with (not looking for romance) but we totally clicked Smile many gigs later he got us tickets for The Cure - my all time favourite band - and proposed there. He even waited until just after the last song so I wouldn't miss anything Grin

This is something I actually discovered myself but I’m sharing cos it’s good and follows on nicely from from the pea layer thing. When making fish pie add tartar sauce to your potato’s when mashing. When making cottage pie add horseradish to your mash.

Take the 'negative space' out of sticker books, so that children can peel the stickers off themselves.
This is definitely the best tip in the history of mumsnet.
Littlemissnutcracker · 21/11/2020 19:11

Not life changing but useful if people do not know

Cooking waffles in the toaster
Taking photos of children's art work rather than keeping it all
Buying a lumea and never having to shave again Grin

dementedma · 21/11/2020 20:51

I have never ever understood the negative space sticker thing! What does it mean?

Pepperwand · 21/11/2020 20:56

@dementedma so you peel all the bit around the stickers off so that the stickers are separated and easier for little ones to peel the edges.

OhioOhioOhio · 21/11/2020 20:58

Emotional abusers don't change or stop. Take photos of letters and invitations.

About using zoflora to make my porch full of batttered, muck-covered shoes smell delightful

Can I ask what you do with the zoflora to make the porch smell fragrant? Just wiping stuff down with it or do you have to plant some in there...?

Also, is there such a thing as a duvet you can't put in the wash??

ouchmyfeet · 21/11/2020 21:17

My best tips are the lumea, and a thread I started on how to make awesome macaroni cheese was brilliant.

Also really appreciated the introduction to gender critical thinking and help navigating the working world as a feminist in a male dominated industry

Atalune · 21/11/2020 21:25

Sauces thicken on standing, good advice that has saved many a supper!
Do as much as you can the night before, packed lunches, school bags etc. Saves faffing in the morning.
Put your trainer insoles in your wellies for long walks. So comfy!
Put your clocks 5 mins fast- keeps everyone on track.
Set up subscription orders for things you use regularly-dishwasher tablets, peanut butter, fairy.

I love the quote “ did you mean to be so rude?”

Series2 · 21/11/2020 21:36

Any bag of stuff in the freezer, peas, chips etc. Cut a whole 1.5cm strip straight horizontally off the top of the bag and use that strip to tie the bag closed. Just one tie, easy to reopen and stops it all spilling out into the freezer.
