As the title says... What should I have with meatballs for tea?? Haven't had them in years but fancied something different but now I don't know what to have them with.

Thank you!

Spaghetti?
Meatball sub?
Meatballs in sauce on Rice?

dementedpixie · 17/11/2020 10:22

We normally make spaghetti and have a tomato pasta sauce with them

BertieBotts · 17/11/2020 10:23

Spaghetti and tomato sauce
Mashed potato, peas and white gravy (ikea style!)
Rice with a vegetable type sauce

Spaghetti, obvs. But mashed potato might work.

pinkbalconyrailing · 17/11/2020 10:24

gravy, mashed potato and sweetcorn

SuperbGorgonzola · 17/11/2020 10:24

Tagliatelle or do them in a pasta bake with bechamel sauce on top.

I've not tried it but you can have them with mash, peas onions and gravy as well, as an alternative to sausages.

Mash

BarbaraofSeville · 17/11/2020 10:26

We buy the Ikea ones frozen. I like them either with good jar sauce like Loyd Grosman (not sorry for eating processed food), spaghetti and parmesan or with cream sauce and chips.

BarbaraofSeville · 17/11/2020 10:27

Or kebab style with salad, pitta and yogurt with mint sauce mixed in.

helloxhristmas · 17/11/2020 10:29

Spaghetti and tomato sauce
Swedish style with mash
Spicy cajun style with rice
Pasta bake
Spanish style with a bit of chorizo through the sauce and rice or sautee potatoes

JamieFraserskneewarmer · 17/11/2020 10:30

We love this one meatballchilli I cheat and use shop-bought meatballs - works with turkey, beef etc and just add the other dry meatball ingredients to the sauce!

Wildernesstips · 17/11/2020 10:30

This is my favourite recipe for IKEA style sauce www.thelondoner.me/2013/12/swedish-meatball-recipe.html

BogRollBOGOF · 17/11/2020 10:31

On top of spaghetti, all covered in cheese,
I lost my poor meatballs, when somebody sneezed.
It rolled off the table,
And onto the floor.
And then my poor meatball, rolled out of the door.

GoJoe2020 · 17/11/2020 10:31

Mashed potatoes, mushroom cream gravy, lingonberry sauce and peas.

AgeLikeWine · 17/11/2020 10:31

Chop a red pepper and a couple of cloves of garlic and gently fry in olive oil until soft. Add a jar of tomato based pasta sauce, a tin of chopped tomatoes and a pinch of chill flakes. Meanwhile, in a separate pan, fry the meatballs until nicely brown. Add the meatballs to the sauce, cook for a few minutes until reduced to a nice thickness, taste, season, serve with pasta & Parmesan. A regular weeknight dinner in our house.

banivani · 17/11/2020 10:42

In Sweden meatballs are eaten:

  • with boiled spuds, brown gravy, lingonberry jam, and some sort of vegetable - boiled carrots/broccoli/green beans whatever, or maybe raw finely sliced white cabbage mixed with grated carrots, a little oil and vinegar.
  • with boiled macaroni and ketchup, accompanied by the wails of small children
justjuggling · 17/11/2020 10:52

Cheesy polenta and a big green salad. 😋

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/11/2020 10:53

I usually make a spicy tomato sauce then have them with pasta and parmesan.

Meatball sub/wrap would be good too.

MenaiMna · 17/11/2020 11:32

In teryaki sauce on vegetables & rice.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 17/11/2020 11:47

I prefer pasta that isn’t spaghetti with meatballs.. usually penne

MrsExpo · 17/11/2020 12:05

I do them in a tomato, onion and red pepper sauce and serve with sauce spuds and a mixed salad. (Boil small new spuds, chop into chunks and sauté in olive oil with seasoning ..... very easy)

twolittleboysonetiredmum · 17/11/2020 12:16

Ooh this thread can help me too! We normally have meatballs with tomato sauce and pasta. But the kids have been asking to have them with gravy like at school. Anyone for a recipe for a very basic gravy sauce to go with meatballs that doesn’t involve ‘bits’ or anything fancy? They’d probably be happy with bisto really

Sparklyring · 17/11/2020 15:33

They all sound really good, thank you:-)

Ikea gravy - google it, it's fab and easy to do. Accompanied with mash.
Yum yum yum.
