Is this normal (work related)?

I started a new job on Wednesday and realised that my new line manager had sent round my CV to all staff members by way of introducing me.

Not sure how I feel about that as hadn't actually given permission for my CV to be sent out?! Personal contact details were redacted but even so.

Is that normal? It's not something I would have ever done with a new starter (certainly not without asking first), and I've done a lot of onboarding.

That's relatively normal in academia though usually at the job candidate stage, not after hiring.

And everyone I work with provides a cv anyway. What do you want to hide?

Sussexroadleyst · 14/11/2020 23:49

I'm not in academic, they couldn't Google me as I'm not on social media and my LinkedIn profile is very basic and doesn't provide any of the details of my CV.

I'm not trying to "hide" anything, I simply am not particularly comfortable with my full CV being shared with colleagues I don't know, without my permission. It simply isn't good practice.

As someone else said, CV sharing is common in academia but not sure of other industries. I wouldn't find it odd personally... What will be your next steps?

Sussexroadleyst · 15/11/2020 07:10

I will probably raise it and point out it isn't ok to do with further new starters without asking them first.

I spoke to one of my friends this AM who is more senior in her HR role than I am and she agrees it isn't on.

Glad you are going to raise it. And I don’t know anyone whose LinkedIn profile matches their cv, the two things are very different. Same goes for a Google search, although why your colleagues would be googling you I don’t know!

Yes, my CV is way more detailed and contains much more personal info than my LinkedIn. I don't use LinkedIn much.
