Steak delivery - where's best?

DP has a milestone birthday next weekend. We should have been going away but obviously that's off.

The plan was he'd grab steaks for a special dinner however he's now isolating for the next week and a half 🙈

I'm working full time and juggling getting dc to school etc around his isolation and I don't drive so no chance of nipping to the shops.

I've just seen an advert for Donald Russel - are they any good? Any other recommendations? I really want to make him a gorgeous dinner

Also, just a thought. If you wanted wine, you can order from Aldi. They’ll deliver 6 bottles, as long as you spend over £30, it’s free delivery.

@Longdistance

See if your local butchers deliver? Say it’s for a special occasion, pay over the phone. Worth a shot. We got a delivery of meats over the first lock down. There was a delivery charge of £10. I think it was Stilton butchers?
We're not in an area known for decent butchers unfortunately. Cheap and cheerful sausage packs tend to be the norm round here!

I got a box of Prosecco with the last shop and do has a nice bottle of red in the cupboard for him 😀

Another Donald Russell fan here.

ProperVexed · 08/11/2020 18:36

I've recently started using Donald Russell and everything has been great so far. But, if they can't deliver in time I can recommend steak fro the Co-op. Honestly, they are really good!

Bridecilla · 09/11/2020 10:43

Ordered - steak night for 2 plus sausages, bacon, black pudding, sides and flat iron steaks (thanks @gwilt) to avoid the delivery charge.

Dp will be in food heaven. He's not interested in cake but will LOVE this!

www.turnerandgeorge.co.uk/

This is where I buy my meat from, their steak is delicious.

GrimDamnFanjo · 09/11/2020 16:35

I buy from craftedmeats.co.uk there's a whole steak section on their website...

Mustbe3ormorecharacters · 09/11/2020 16:39

I prefer farmison to Donald Russel.

Painsnail · 09/11/2020 16:41

Farmison is very good

gwilt · 09/11/2020 17:24

My pleasure @Bridecilla. I would love to know how it goes once you've tried them Smile

Bridecilla · 15/11/2020 13:35

steak night was a roaring success. Steaks were great. Sides were a bit shit though and wouldn't order those again.

Cooked him a huge fry up for breakfast with their sausages, black pudding and bacon. All very good.

One of the packets of sausages was open when it arrived (dp took delivery and put it away so I didn't know until today) which I'm tempted to email them about as it's packed in dry ice so might make them a bit dodgy?

Great to hear Smile I agree, the meat is better than the sides. Definitely get in touch with them. Their customer service has been brilliant every time I've called.

Bridecilla · 15/11/2020 18:02

The breakfast stuff was excellent - it's DPs big birthday so I made us a fry up for brunch. We were meant to be getting a Chinese takeaway for tea but we're still stuffed!

Happy to vouch for Donald Russell. Quality is superb.

I see the OP has already bought hers but if anyone else wants to try there is this £29 offer www.donaldrussell.com/tv-offer-d3949.html

I would complain about the open sausages - you will probably get a discount if you buy again.

MadameRanevskaya · 16/11/2020 16:20

Maybe an obvious question, but is the meat from Donald Russell frozen when it arrives?

Bridecilla · 16/11/2020 17:18

Yes, I was surprised at it being frozen actually but it defrosted well and the steak was very good. They have a sale on at the minute. Tempted to buy a freezer full of black pudding sausage 🤣
