Outside swimming anyone?

Does anyone do outside swimming? I have started having a daily dip. I am working up to actually swimming, at the moment I just slowly inch my way in up to my neck and then stay as long as possible. Then I tread water for a minute or so but I am trying to stop myself hyperventilating as soon as my feet leave the ground. It was 7 degrees today .

Can anyone tell I am not a natural cold water fiend? This is an attempt to improve my mental health/ decrease anxiety. It will also give me a bit of focus in lockdown as I don’t work and the kids are at school, and all the stuff I do normally has just stopped.

It does make you feel great afterwards.

Frippit that sounds heavenly.

I went this afternoon in Southsea and am just drying off after post swim shower. I’d put it about 14 degrees, really not that cold but my husband’s feet went white anyway. Very busy but only us swimming, so we got a few odd looks. Que Sera.

Part of the joy is feeling you’ve earned your coffee and cake afterwards. Essential to warming up and Southsea has a few good beach cafes to choose from.

CherryPavlova I wish it was warmer here we're in the north and it's chilly now. However when I get out I really enjoy my coffee.
HumphreyCobblers I hope you carry on with your dips. I find its not so much the water but if it's windy you chill faster. A still sunny cold day is easier to warm up in. As it gets colder now I'm reducing my time in the water and the cold definatly makes me swim faster😄

Yes, definitely wind chill can be an issue. I'm thinking about driving home in my robe rather than faffing about changing on the beach now.

I certainly plan to keep it up, I feel SO much better for it. Am so close to my house I can beetle back and get dressed in front of the fire.

I love hearing about all you experienced swimmers. I am also amazed at how my tolerance improved in such a short time.

I cannot recommend this lady enough, she's running some zoom sessions during lockdown including winter skills Grin
