Is the name of your mortgage provider sensitive info?

Currently mid house purchase. Solicitor has repeatedly got my email address wrong (despite being told to correct it by both us and the random stranger who is receiving emails about the progress of our sale!)

Email today about our existing mortgage that’s being paid off through the sale and while it doesn’t mention the amount, it does mention the provider. DH and I are trying to work out how pissed off we are about this, would you consider the name of your current mortgage company to be confidential info? On the one hand I’d happily tell friends who our provider is if they asked, on the other hand I know you’re not meant to broadcast on the internet who you bank with from a security POV. I don’t think any actual harm will come from it but would you consider it sensitive info? I certainly would consider it sensitive info if they’d disclosed the amount etc, so I’m torn..

The mortgage is listed on the land register as a charge against the house - and that’s a publicly available document. So no.

That’s a really good point @Bouncycastle12! I was thinking about mortgage provider being like who your current account is with, which I guess is semi-sensitive. Had forgotten it’s listed on the Land Reg docs.

Yes, but you posting has made me realise it is a bit odd having it listed there!

It's listed there to make sure everyone knows they can't buy the property without a mortgage being repaid, the bank has a charge over the house. Prevents land fraud, and to stop you sneaking a second mortgage without telling existing mortgage.

So no, not sensitive unless there's a drip feed with more info.
