Hotel Chocolat velvetiser

I recently got my velvetiser and I am really pleased with it.

A couple of things I'm interested in

1- Any other hot chocolate recommendations whether HC or other brands? So far I'm actually thinking the HC classic one might be my favourite, though I'd previously thought it not sweet enough. The orange one is nice too.

2- Will my hot choc by more thick and frothy with whole milk? We usually buy semi skimmed and it's fine but if I was in the shop buying a hot choc I would be adding cream!

Yes I saw that on amazon but some glitch means it won't work when I try to do the subscribe and save.

I haven't worked out the exact cost but I assume it is cheaper.

@SoupDragon Thanks for posting re: the shaker, I don't have lots of hot chocolate, so this would be a more suitable budget for me.

I’d love a velvetiser - the copper one looks lovely.

But I make really frothy and smooth hot chocolate using hot milk, chocolate flakes and the nutribullet so can’t quite convince myself I need another gadget Sad

DH told me I didn't need the velvetiser as it is a glorified pan and whisk but I know I simply couldn't be bothered to make them very often at home and also they never taste as good as from a cafe!

With this is so easy, you just pour in the milk and flakes, put the lid on and switch it on. After 2.5 mins you have a lovely hot frothy chocolate and it's very easy to clean too Grin

Oooh, EatPrayYoga, have PM'd you.

Diavoloroquito · 03/11/2020 12:12

What puts me off buying it is that it only makes a cupful. Whereas in a pan you can make however much. If you were making for your family it would all get cold but the time you all wanted to drink it. Especially, as it doesn’t make the hot chocolate piping hot.

EatPrayYoga · 05/11/2020 12:10

I know what you mean Diavolo It's mostly only me that drinks it and on occasion maybe I'd make hot choc or lattes for guests but I think that would be fine. If you were making for a few kids then it might be annoying not not a problem for us. It's so much nicer than just doing in a pan.

Anyway I came on to say I just tried the HC salted caramel (I'm working my way through the sachets) and it's very nice. It could be a favourite.

@mimbleandlittlemy does it work well with the oatmilk? We use oatmilk exclusively and one of the other milk frothers I was looking at had reviews saying it didn't froth the barista oatmilk .

mimbleandlittlemy · 05/11/2020 21:21

We think it works really well. It doesn’t froth wildly but it’s delicious.

tootyfruitypickle · 05/11/2020 21:23

I’m tempted for dd. She’s a bit fussy about hot choc so I’ll get the hotel chocolate powder to try first and check she likes it!

tootyfruitypickle · 05/11/2020 21:36

I’m being dense- presumably you can use any hot chocolate in it?

Going to check out some of the alternatives suggested on here too !

MrsWonderland · 05/11/2020 21:50

Does anyone know if the aeroccino works just as well?

HeyLala · 05/11/2020 22:14

Try using coconut milk, it's a game changer 😋

EatPrayYoga · 05/11/2020 22:25

Yes they recommend the HC chocolate but you can use any

I used to prefer Starbucks or nero hot chocolate to that of Hotel Chocolat but since getting the machine at home and trying different ones I think the Hotel Chocolat ones in the velvetiser make by far the best hot chocolate

I don't know what the aeroccino is

I will give coconut milk a try too Smile

Yes it does! I use my Nespresso aeroccino with the HC flakes and it's perfect. Hazelnut is my fave but I have a fear it's about to be discontinued....
MrsWonderland · 06/11/2020 18:04

@samiamgreeneggs ooooh great. I have a pot of HC flakes. Sounds like a hot chocolatey kind of lockdown weekend

derekthe1adyhamster · 22/11/2020 16:04

so I caved and bought the aldi velvetiser as a christmas present for DS, has anyone tried this hot chocolate I'm too tight to buy the sachets, but I have subscribed and saved on the tub of HC hot chocolate
