Is it same or different to you dc? How old are your dc?

We eat as a family between half 5 and 6. DC are 11 and 7.

Sports and dance etc do make it awkward. DD can't eat more than a decent snack before swimming (5 or 6 sessions a week), her training is 6.30-8 some days so she eats after but 8-9 on others so she cooks herself pasta at about 4.30 and will have a snack afterwards. Still, it's stopping again on Thursday Sad.

burglarbettybaby · 01/11/2020 10:36

1pm at the weekend
5.30 or so in the evenings midweek

BearSoFair · 01/11/2020 10:38

We all eat around 6:30. DH and I both grew up eating dinner at 5-5:30 so it doesn't feel early to us!

doodleygirl · 01/11/2020 10:39

7.30 is normally the earliest.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 01/11/2020 14:41

Between 5 and 6pm unless we have clubs in which case closer to 4.30pm

Ellieboolou33 · 01/11/2020 18:41

Around 6-6.30pm, kids 5 & 8.
Always had dinner around that time, I'm up at 6am, don't have breakfast, lunch at 12-1pm so kids and myself hungry by then.
Dh will have his when he gets in around 7.30-8pm.

Bailey0703 · 01/11/2020 22:01

We are resolutely middle class ..
Therefore Dinner cannot be before 7:30 pm... and supper not before 10pm .. 😬

Feminist10101 · 01/11/2020 22:03

Eat as a family several days a week between 8-8:30pm. Don’t think we’ve ever warren earlier than 7:30pm (DD is 10).

A few days a week I workout at night and eat at 10-10:30pm.

yellowmaoampinball · 01/11/2020 22:11

Ha! You think it's a boring thread but I've seen this subject kick off before. There's already been a few side swipes - adults eating around 5 or 6, shock, horror! A comment on how it's middle class to eat later of course...

We are a bit like easilydepleted and don't take concerns about class or adultiness into account. We eat when we're hungry and when fits around everyone's schedule. Over lockdown the kids slept late and had a late breakfast and lunch so dinner was around 8. Once school kicked back in we brought it back to 6 as they were hungry by then.

Pre lockdown dinner was all over the place as we had to fit it in around various after school activities.

twobrews · 01/11/2020 22:12

Anywhere between 5 and 8:30. It's a massive bone of contention between DH and me, he thinks we need a set time to suit his schedule so 'we know where we are' but I do the cooking so it's ready when it's ready. He's not even here most of the week anyway.
His Mum used to get the evening meal ready for 4:30 regardless and they'd all just just reheat as necessary, she gets up about 4 in the morning so I guess 4:30 is late Confused
When I was growing up it was always after neighbours Grin

AriesTheRam · 01/11/2020 22:33

5.30/6 usually.

NoIdea1234 · 01/11/2020 22:59

We eat as a family around 6:45/7pm, my child is 3. And lunch together too on my days off or at the weekend, around 12:30.

thismeansnothing · 01/11/2020 23:12

12:30-1pm

Tea varies. But usually sat down for 6 when DH is home. That's me and DDs who are 8 and 20 months

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 01/11/2020 23:27

Dc (5 of, ages 10>3), somewhere between 5 & 6. Dh often doesn't get home until just before 7 so we eat at half past. Our 3 & 5yo wouldn't be able to wait any longer than 6 though, especially on the 3yo nursery days. If Dh is on A/L we eat as a family at about 6 & we always have a main meal together at lunchtime on a Sunday. The aim is that by the time the littlest is 5/6 ish to be all eating together after Dh gets home. It's rare I cook 2 completely separate meals though, I tend to do curries, pies, casseroles etc that can be kept warm/ quickly re heated with an accompaniment cooked if needed.

One of the only things we all truly liked about lockdown was being able to eat together daily.

🤣 when I was growing up it was usually DURING neighbours!

During the week kids (5 and 7) eat ideally about 5 and dh and I about 6.30 though sometimes after they are in bed so about 8.

Weekends and holidays we all try to eat together about 6/6.30.

grassisjeweled · 02/11/2020 01:17

5.30pm.

Works for us

twobrews · 02/11/2020 09:32

Their not there Hmm

NeonGenesis · 02/11/2020 09:35

Usually about 5pm. We all go to bed fairly early and get up fairy early. Young DC plus lots of animals to tend to in the morning.

Pre kids and animals, we would have had tea at about 8. And we would have called it dinner and had a nice bottle of wine with it. Those were nice times Smile

Ifailed · 02/11/2020 09:37

12:30-1pm

@thismeansnothing , I was going to post the same.

movingonup20 · 02/11/2020 09:48

6.30ish, only dp and I now but when I had kids at home with exh it was still 6.30 and always ate together from babies in high chairs

Wtfdidwedo · 02/11/2020 14:10

Speaking of having dinner during Neighbours we used to have it during 15 to 1!

EmmaStone · 02/11/2020 14:38

I don't finish work until 5, and me & the kids (in normal times) are usually home just before 6. Then there may be after school activities or exercise classes to get to. If it's an early class, we eat afterwards - 7:30-8:30, if it's a later one, we'll try to eat beforehand, but it's always slightly crazy. My kids are older now though, 15 & 13 so can wait (but descend on the kitchen and devour all the snacks). When they were very young, they used to eat early (5, and if I was working, fed at childcare), and we'd eat separately once they were in bed.

TheBestSpoon · 02/11/2020 15:25

We eat all together at 6:45ish, then DS has bath at 7:15/7:30 and is asleep by 8:15. He's nearly 2. But while he sleeps well, he's never been a long sleeper, so we eat and put him to bed a bit later than average so he's not up at 5am! Also fits nicely around work and commute and means we get to spend a bit of time with him in the evening on nursery days.

underneaththeash · 02/11/2020 16:08

If DH is in town we eat at 8.15 and kids at 6.30. Otherwise we all eat at 7. Kids are 14,12 and 9.
