Am I less evolved ?

Starting a thread after a conversation I had with a work colleague the other day which has left me feeling a bit rubbish.
He believes in karma and was explaining to me how it works (I don’t know much about all this)
Anyway he was chatting to me and saying about you have to improve in each life you have to evolve and then you go to heaven. I wasn’t totally getting it and said I don’t know where I’d be in the karma cycle as I feel happy where I am in my life and he basically said (as an example to me) that another colleague is more evolved than me in the sense that they are intelligent, strong, compassionate, know where they want to go in life, knows how to handle herself. So I’ve still got a lot to learn?!
It just made me feel bad about myself and I’ve started googling it all. Just wanted to know what your thoughts are on this whole karma thing.
If I’m less successful in my career and shy for example-does that mean I’m less evolved?! Is that how people think/ how it works?! I just view everyone as an individual, never thought like this before!
Feeling confused 🤷‍♀️

Yeah I shouldn’t listen and take offence to what other people say I know.
Maybe I have lived in a bit of an ignorant bubble to not to know much about it all. I dont know 🤷‍♀️
I just go about my life, stuff like that doesn’t cross my mind!

@HelpMeh

I thought Buddhists were meant to be kind? Your colleague is a rude twat so I'd be inclined to ignore anything he says...

Buddhism and its belief systems are as real as any of the other religions you could choose from. Make of that what you will.

This guy has massively misunderstood karma so this isn’t Buddhism!

Karma is in Buddhism, in very simple form, your attitude affects your experience. So if you take everything as a negative, Act unskilfully, get into negative emotional states, you will be more likely to suffer and be unhappy (hell in buddhism is negative mental states not a place). Conversely, if you work on your mind to develop skilful or positive states, such as being calm, compassionate, generous, thoughtful etc, then your experience of life will be a more positive experience (heaven or ‘nirvana’ is in very simplistic terms a life with more positive mental states.)

If karma’s like a great game of snakes and ladders, he’s just demonstrated he’s slithered down the biggest snake on the board of the karmic system of life by being a mean, insufferable, pompous twat who feels good by putting others down with unkind words. Completely inconsistent with being “evolved” & good karma.

Karma is big in Hinduism too - as is the caste system, which is intertwined with it.
Ask him if he's a big believer in the caste system. It's a load of bollocks!

I’ll read up on the caste system!
