NI Number - Apprenticeship Degree

DS1 is in Y13. It's been a fraught couple of years and but he's back on track with studies and has decided to apply for apprenticeship degrees for next year. Two of them require his NI number as part of the application process. His NI number never arrived when he was 16 and I never thought to chase it. The closing date is today. We've emailed them and they won't accept applications without it and they won't extend. On Friday (when he started looking at ADs) we did an online chat with the Gov.uk and requested a number and it's on it's way.

He's tried calling Gov.uk but it seems nothing can be done. Which is so unbelievably frustrating.

Thanks guys.

My NI number is 6 numbers then a letter.

His CTF reference number is 8 numbers then a letter.

I am trying to call the CTF people but I'm on a work call.

The NINO is not issued until they are approaching 16. It would have no relation to your CB or any CTF's.

dementedpixie · 26/10/2020 15:53

Yes it does. If you are trying to trace a CTF its the NI number they ask for. My dd recently had her NI sent and it matches the unique reference on her CTF

NinnyNewName · 26/10/2020 15:53

That's not what others have said mycat. I have 3 people who have said that their UTR on the CTF paperwork is the same as their NI number.

Your NiNo definitely isn't 6 numbers and a letter, where are you getting that from?

Glad you have found it - good luck to your DS with his applications!

dementedpixie · 26/10/2020 15:59

I have just checked back to dd's first CTF statement from 2005 and it had a Unique Reference Number on it that is exactly the same as the NI number that was sent when she was 16.

If you claim child benefit your child automatically gets their NI number sent when they are 16. I imagine it must be assigned to them much earlier than that though.

dementedpixie · 26/10/2020 16:00

NI is
2 letters then
6 numbers then
1 letter

dementedpixie · 26/10/2020 16:04

DS is 14 so I assume that his Unique Reference Number on his CTF will be his NI when thats due to be sent

NinnyNewName · 26/10/2020 16:04

Yep NI is two letters, 6 numbers, 1 letter.

Thank goodness we found it. They have the correct address for us as we had to provide it on Friday when talking to gov.uk via their online chat.
