It will help your fitness levels but it's more about what you eat.

Redcups64 · 22/10/2020 10:47

Not really, there is no need, you will just be out of pocket if you don’t keep it up. Try doing exercise and if you keep it up then get a bike.

(Unless you can easily afford it, then why not)

You will lose pounds (£££) and gain something to drape clothes over.

It certainly helped me, combined with watching what I ate though, as has already been said

Made me feel better for actually doing some exercise as well

workshy44 · 22/10/2020 10:52

I would get a treadmill, fast walking at a consistent pace is brilliant for weight loss
You can rent them too so could try for a month
You need to do an hour a day - 6 days a week and about 7K per hour but you will shed the weight. I found it far better for weight loss (definitely more boring though) than walking outside

Laufeythejust · 22/10/2020 10:55

I have made this mistake so many times- bought one, used it for a week then it became a clothes rack! Instead I would advise some dumbbells 2kg and 3kg to start off with. Google some exercises and maybe do some exercises in the living room. If you keep it up gradually buy more equipment. Joe’s Wicks does a lot of free workouts online.

Gin4thewin · 22/10/2020 10:57

I lost 4st in 5 months using a static bike. I did 20km at least, every day, trying to beat the previous days time. I had to do it daily, if i missed a day id have to find the will to get on it and start again. I calorie restricted too on top

xanthippe8 · 22/10/2020 11:08

I never got on with the exercise bike, DH wore it out and replaced it with a rowing machine which I use a lot. I think it gives you a much better workout.

nostaples · 22/10/2020 11:17

Get outside walking and building to a run. Lots of evidence that being outside is good for physical and mental health. Completely free. And you can do it with others. Plus the autumn colours!

DelphineWalsh · 22/10/2020 11:18

Get an actual bike so you can go places. Makes it much less boring.

areyoubeingserviced · 22/10/2020 11:20

Go for a power walk. Forty five minutes, six days a week. Watch what you eat
The weight will fall off

thedevilinablackdress · 22/10/2020 11:21

Weight loss is mostly diet. If you it in serious miles on the bike it will help.

thedevilinablackdress · 22/10/2020 11:21

*put in

BIWI · 22/10/2020 11:22

Diet is far more effective than exercise for weight loss.

Exercise is good for your general health and wellbeing, though.

AriettyHomily · 22/10/2020 11:27

Are you talking about a peloton style spin bike or one of the crappy fold up exercise bikes that make great clothes horses?

Either way, diet is the way forward and get out for a walk.

TriSkiRun99 · 22/10/2020 11:31

Eat less, eat in a smaller window so there’s an element of fasting overnight and walk more or do 20mins Hitt every other day (with weights even better) and your lose weight. The bike will become a clothes horse within a month.

Bwlch · 22/10/2020 11:32

Eating less will be far more effective.
