I've just watched Gaslight, and started on A Night To Remember.

I was trying to remember ones my mother used to watch, I remember an old Hollywood music and dancing based one that had a swimming pool on the stage but can't really remember much about it, it was in colour not black and white.

But any other recommendations would be great. Trying to keep my mind occupied after a horrible break up.

@katy1213

The old Rebecca is so much better than the new one. And The Bishop's Wife is possibly the best Christmas film ever!
Thank you @katy1213. It's my favourite Christmas movie too

Rear Window and The Birds are my favourites. The fashions were exquisite and the stories properly gripping.

nearlynermal · 19/10/2020 20:04

High Society: Grace Kelly with Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra.

And the original Secret Life of Walter Mitty with Danny Kaye

Thank you for the link mog!

I'll add the old St Trinian's films, and second Calamity Jane.

And State Fair (the 40s rather than the 60s version) has lovely music and costumes, but isn't really that well-known.

Scoobidoo · 19/10/2020 20:10

@bruffin

If you have cable look on the channel Talking Pictures. Lots of old black and white films and old tv
Talking Pictures is also on Freeview. London Live also shows some good old ones sometimes.

Some great ideas on here - my suggestions are:

Meet Me in St Louis
Hobson's Choice (with John Mills and Charles Laughton)
