What gives you those ASMR chills?

I don’t know why but this clip always does.

I think it’s when Rowan Atkinson goes “oo” when he reveals the stand for the box Grin

Watching the pool guy on tik tok. Something about the hoses in the water and pouring in the chemicals just makes me feel so relaxed and tingly

I do have that thing where small holes make my head tingle in a really horrible way too. I can never remember what it's called

zukiecat · 22/10/2020 15:28

My hair being brushed and played with. My back being stroked.

I love crinkly plastic and page tapping too. Sometimes soft spoken or whispering gets me.

I'm missing the library. I just love the sound of books on the shelf, the plastic covers being touched, books being taken off and put back on the shelves. I usually sit down and just enjoy all the library sounds.

I thought it was just me who felt it, never spoke about it, only found out a few years ago that it happens to a lot of people and had a fancy name.

BorderlineHappy · 22/10/2020 17:39

Anyone else have to watch it in secrecy Grin

TurquoiseDragon · 22/10/2020 19:58

I forgot about the hair brushing. I'm not so bothered about watching someone else getting their hair brushed, but if mine gets brushed I get the tingles.

So, I nearly always indulged DD when she wanted to play with my hair when little. All that brushing, and putting clips, etc in my hair was great.

VenusClapTrap · 22/10/2020 20:26

How very interesting, I never knew there was a link between synaesthesia and that feeling from hair brushing. I have both.

Ds likes to play with my hair and when he does I have to stop what I’m doing and can’t even speak very easily. It’s like a tranquilliser dart. If Dh strokes my back I go straight to sleep. He was very disappointed to discover this early in our relationship! Then he found it amusing, and now he just enjoys having this ‘power’!

I never knew this was a common thing.

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 22/10/2020 20:30

People will think I’m absolutely barmy but i remember getting v strong ASMR chills when I was in primary school and somebody would look through my pencil case 😂

Possibly outing myself here but whenever anyone plays with/brushes my hair I’ll say “feels like you’re looking in my pencil case.”

Yeah, I’m super weird Grin

VenusClapTrap · 22/10/2020 20:35

I’ve just remembered that I used to get the chills from the Juliet Bravo theme tune when I was a child. I had to leave the room because I’d get such a strong emotional reaction!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 22/10/2020 20:38

Hair brushing
Whispering
Videos of people having their nails done or hair done
Silent baking

Cheesey21 · 22/10/2020 20:43

@ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 I actually understand this. It's the sound of the pencils rustling together for me. I get it when I'm watching somebody write or draw too.

purrswhileheeats · 22/10/2020 21:08

I used to love it at school (in the 80's) when the nit nurse would rummage through your hair looking for nits Blush Oh it was bliss! And I like getting patted down at security at the airport, makes me all tingly and relaxed.

One of my dcats is obsessed by my sweaty hair when I get home from the gym, she rubs her face on my scalp and digs her claws into my hair - it's the best head massage ever 😽

VenusClapTrap · 22/10/2020 21:47

Ooh yes Nitty Nora - loved that!

Time2change2 · 22/10/2020 21:56

@EatPrayYoga

Cleaner cleaning the office around me at work! Hasn't happened for a while but that springs to mind
Me too! Anyone cleaning / dusting or wiping tables whilst I am in an office / hairdressers etc. I don’t get tingles but my body feels like it’s had relaxant poured in and I’m in a kind of trance
Time2change2 · 22/10/2020 22:00

If anyone loves ASMR, check out Latte ASMR on you tube and let me know what you think!

Gertie75 · 22/10/2020 22:53

Being scratched, I love having my back scratched but my favourite place is the back of my legs and my ankle bones.

Also holes, they make my skin crawl but in a pleasurable way.

Tillygetsit · 23/10/2020 00:21

Getting a cuddle from my puppy. He's not very cuddly so it's all the more wonderful for being rare. Listening to the dc singing together instead of arguing.

SurreyHillsGirl · 23/10/2020 06:52

Seems some posters are getting 'frisson' confused with ASMR. Chills from music, etc are different to the 'tingles' of ASMR.

SurreyHillsGirl · 23/10/2020 06:54

Latte's attention to detail is amazing! She seems really sweet as well. V underrated compared to say Ting Ting (who is also wonderful).
BorderlineHappy · 23/10/2020 09:42

I love Latte her ASMR is amazing.

And actually the singing ones are great as well.

Whispers Red, Maria and River are my favourites now.

Zaphodsotherhead · 23/10/2020 12:04

ASMR is different to frisson, but maybe related?

Anyone got any tips for someone resolutely single who has nobody to rub their back or squeeze their ankles or stroke their hair? Watching it is not quite as good (although watching people having their head massaged is almost as good)?

I can't do it to myself!

EatPrayYoga · 23/10/2020 22:31

I first found massage videos and found those super relaxing and then the hair brushing

Now I like ASMR Darling and I used to like GentleWhispering but I hadn't watched any until recently

treefox3513 · 23/10/2020 22:38

@ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 the pencil case thing for me too! I thought I was the only one!
When a friend would rummage through looking for a pen I would put my pencil case in the middle of the desk and tell them to help themselves. I'm sure they thought I was odd Grin

Zaphodsotherhead · 24/10/2020 14:20

I used to love rummaging through filing cabinets! Just rifling through papers with my finger tips... mmmmm.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 24/10/2020 14:43

My woodwork teacher had a soft voice with a bit of a lisp and her spiel at the start of class practically put me in a coma.

One of the guys who looks after the office plants taps his water checking stick on the plant pot behind my desk in just the right way.

I feel it in my throat rather than my head/back of neck

YellowHighlighterPen · 24/10/2020 14:52

Certain sounds like the rustle of my hair or particular chirps that birds make through my new hearing aids. The chirps register as part chirp part click. Delicious.

DappledThings · 24/10/2020 15:12

Never had the ASMR thing.

But fascinated by how many people relate it to hair. I hate having my hair touched by anyone else. Having a haircut is tolerable but I avoid it for ages. The DC love to play with it and I have to stop them after a minute or so. Makes me feel quite stabby.
