Britney Spears lawyer statement

I know there have been other threads about Spears and the 'Free Britney' movement, sorry! But anyone seen this latest statement from her lawyer? What do you make of it?

metro.co.uk/2020/10/08/britney-spears-likened-to-comatose-patient-by-her-lawyer-during-conservatorship-hearing-13390149/

I find it such an odd thing to say about your own client. It must mean things are worse than they look with Britney's mental capacity? She does come across as very childlike but to say that she lacks capacity to sign a declaration about whether or not she wishes to keep performing, is surely quite extreme? Poor woman. Sad

I feel really sorry for Brittany. I'm not on Instagram but I have occasionally looked at her posts on there when they've been mentioned here and there really is something off about them. She just looks dead behind the eyes in some of them, I suspect heavily medicated.

Marisishidinginmyattic · 09/10/2020 16:39

It just doesn't seem believable that she's been able to cope with all that while still supposedly having no ability to make basic decisions for herself.

Perhaps she copes with it all because she knows every inch of her life is being looked after for her and so the pressure is very very low. All the thought career choices will be made for her too. That way she can enjoy the side of that life that makes her happy without the stresses it can cause. Any tough choices that come up can be immediately dealt with by someone else. I’d imagine that level of support could really help someone with mental health issues and allow them to come across as quite functional especially when people can’t see all the behind the scenes stuff that help the person to survive.

Giving her dad benefit of the doubt, the performing, music, fans and busy- ness might be the structure and purpose she needs. It's all she's ever really known and doing a residency or a TV series must be very different from world tour after world tour, I know a lot of hard work and rehearsal must go into it on her part but it must be as close to 'turn up, do your hours and leave' as can be in her industry.

Plus if she's out there doing something, the speculation and press intrusion will be less than if she was living as a recluse?

Just wondering whether this is why he encourages her to keep working. Of course he could be siphoning off money on the sly but £150k or so (if that is definitely the salary he was drawing) doesn't seem ridiculously high given her profile and income.

Mydarlingsleepthief · 09/10/2020 18:07

I don’t think we will ever find out the ins and outs of her illness whilst she’s still alive, as rightly so it is kept private

user1471565182 · 09/10/2020 18:21

Because she put all of her money and assets into a trust (around about 2004) he supposedly has access to that as well as long as shes judged to be incapable of doing it herself. The fact hes claimed its dementia looks extremely dodgy-its the only real illness for which he can do this and shes being dealt with under laws etc. which are meant to protect the very eldery or advanced dementia patients, degenerative diseases etc. not things like bi polar disorder

user1471565182 · 09/10/2020 18:21

She has asked for her full medical records to be published.

Nquartz · 09/10/2020 18:46

I do t know how anyone can’t see that she is very unwell and believe that actually she’s just a hostage

Her dad (and her ex) were in charge of her medication and not necessarily prescribed

SleepingStandingUp · 09/10/2020 22:07

Her Instagram doesn't particularly portray a healthy, well balanced mother of two approaching 40 tbf. But cause and effect, who knows. The whole case poses so many ethical questions that we'll never understand enough to answer

RosyPickle · 10/10/2020 11:37

SleepStandingUp She really doesn't, does she? It's very sad. She seems to be play-acting a child's idea of an adult woman. She's been performing since a very young age so I guess it makes sense that she would take refuge in these kinds of behaviours that she would have learned growing up, and would have received a lot of attention and approval from. That sounds quite disturbing but hopefully you know what I mean!

The whole thing is absolutely tragic, if she wishes to retire then she should be allowed to do so and live her life in peace. Perhaps she does need help with managing her affairs but she shouldn't be made to work and work for a fortune she has no control over.

FrancoBranco · 10/10/2020 12:11

Her instagram makes me so sad. She wears the same clothes repeatedly and films herself dancing in the same room. I'm not someone who notices hair extensions usually but hers look like they were put in 3 years ago and haven't been brushed since. She doesn't look well taken care of.

According to the terms of her conservatorship, she can't even decide to drive to Starbucks and get a coffee at the drive through. That's how little control she has over her own life.

I don't know if she is severely mentally ill, or if her medication (which she has no control over and can be sectioned for refusing) is causing her behaviour, but I'm sure her life could be managed in a healthier and nicer way. She is very rich; she could have highly skilled carers who engage with her, who ensure she lives the best, most fulfilling life possible. Instead she is posting bizarre videos to Instagram of her dancing alone in a hallway, with smeared make up and matted hair. She is being failed by the people who are supposed to care for her.

SisterAgatha · 10/10/2020 12:40

Self care has always been a concern for Britney, her hair was the same as it was before she had any meds, in the years before her first breakdown.

She often speaks with that baby voice yes, but does also use an English accent from time to time which some suggest is indicative of MPD.

I really don’t think she has capacity.

mintich · 10/10/2020 12:42

He wasn't saying she has the mental capacity of a comatose patient, he was saying she has the legal capacity of a comatose patient

SleepingStandingUp · 11/10/2020 12:06

Absolutely. We're a month apart in age, I could imagine doing this to entertain my boys but I'd be giggly and there would be a kid screaming somewhere. The whole doing it for the camera is very like locking herself away in regressive behaviours. And it's listed again and again on Instagram. Same with some other pictures. As if it didn't get enough liked the first time but she's not self aware enough to know that that's not what you do iyswim. I can't help but wonder of they're a deal trauma there she's avoiding
SleepingStandingUp · 11/10/2020 12:08

I really don’t think she has capacity yet she's well enough to work and engage in an adult sexual relationship. Unless there's no sex and the bfs just enjoys the money and noteriety I guess bit I'm questioning the ethics of anyone having an adult relationship with her of she's really that bad

Scaraffito · 11/10/2020 12:12

The dances are odd, seen as though her team control her every move you would think that they would stop her posting them, unless it benefits them- it kinda 'proves' oh look she is unwell. If they actually cared about her no doubt they would allow her privacy if she is struggling. Similarly, she has made her fortune largely on being attractive and singing songs about sex (her real singing voice is actually beautiful, but ultimately she has been stopped from releasing music she wants even before all of this as it's not in line with the image); so appearing unkempt etc is perhaps a way of rebelling. Either way, I hope she gets the help she actually needs, as she hasn't seemingly improved in years, it's evidently not working, and it seems factors other than her wellbeing which should be the focus are at play.

Bluewavescrashing · 11/10/2020 12:19

I think she is being held against her will and wants to get out. Whether or not she could cope alone is doubtful but she looks broken.

SleepingStandingUp · 11/10/2020 12:27

There was something about her wanting new legal reps bit Dad song it would be too expensive so she's not allowed but she's arguing the toss.

Lollyneenah · 11/10/2020 12:27

Those dancing videos are so sad to watch. She reminds me to much of my 7year old dd with all the twirling and walking up and down.
I agree with pp though- if shes this ill there is no way she should have a boyfriend or be working. It's such a shame that with all that money that she cant be living a happier life with specialist care.

Bluewavescrashing · 11/10/2020 13:04

The boyfriend is paid to be with her and look after her. He was vetted by her dad.

Mydarlingsleepthief · 12/10/2020 11:33

But is that true @bluewavescrashing or just something you have read?
