Sudden onset of stomach cramps. Does anything help?

Shinygoldbauble · 05/10/2020 00:04

About 30 mins ago I got sudden stomach cramps, very intense. Coming and going.
I didn't eat or drink anything out of the ordinary and I don't have any stomach issues normally.
Everyone else is asleep and we had the same meals and they don't seem to be suffering.
I haven't been anywhere to catch a bug but could I have caught one from ok m the kids even if they have no symptoms?
Sympathy and suggestions to help would be very welcome.

Is it trapped wind OP?

Lay on your back, bring your feet up to your bottom, and move your knees from side to side. Do it for a few minutes and then lower your legs back down. If it is wind this will get rid of it

Poor you!

I got something similar when pregnant, it was fucking awful. I was hospitalised with it (high risk pregnancy) but in the end the doc said it was viral. I’m sorry to say that nothing helped, even buscopan which is specifically for this type of thing, so I just suffered for a couple of days with hot water bottles curled up in the foetal position.

Sympathies!

I think you may just have to ride it out. I drink fizzy drinks to make me sick during a bug. Better than bile. Once I'm sure it's not the other end as well I just go to bed with a bucket, leave a lamp on and just see it through.

Good luck.

Just checking.... there's no chance your pregnant is there?

Shinygoldbauble · 05/10/2020 00:10

Doesn't feel like wind. Unfortunately feels exactly like a hideous D&V bug i had a few years ago but without the d or v so far.

Thanks.
No, definitely not pregnant.

It came on really quickly, went from 100% fine to mega cramps all of a sudden.

Try it OP. You never know :)

Sycamoretrees · 05/10/2020 00:16

Thats a shame I was hoping it was going to turn into a surprise Labour thread!

Hope what ever it is passes quickly and you feel better soon.

Shinygoldbauble · 05/10/2020 00:16

If its digestion related cramps (but not vomity) I find Baileys helps hugely. A combination of the cream soothing and the alcohol dulling the pain maybe? But its my go to for stomach pains

notangelinajolie · 05/10/2020 00:29

Cocodamol. Hot water bottle and lie on your back as straight as you can. Deep breaths, stay calm and let the cramp ride over you each time you get a wave.
Curling up in a ball and trying to fight it will just make you tense and make it worse. Inactivity and pain killers will soon stop it.

BusterGonad · 05/10/2020 03:42

I wouldn't suggest cocodamal as if it's a bowel issue, cocodamal causes constipation and can make thinks worse. Also do not take ibuprofen as it aggregates your stomach. I suggest a hot water bottle, paracetamol and curling up until its over. If you have it some of those Buscopan tablets for stomach cramps but they rarely work for me.

halfpasteleven · 05/10/2020 04:00

Hope you got some sleep OP and that one of the above worked for you

randomsabreuse · 05/10/2020 04:02

Is it getting better or worse? Localising anywhere? I had sudden onset cramps, unproductive, sent DH off to buy Gaviscon as felt like wind/ pregnancy indigestion (also not pregnant) and it turned out to be appendicitis...

Went from 'could do with toilet but can wait' to rolling on floor crying in about 4 hours!

swapsicles · 05/10/2020 06:12

I had this earlier, involuntary emptying of my.stomach into.the loo over an hour helped!
I.think mine was nut related as similar has happened before although had no headaches this time.
As a pp said buscopan is great for stomach cramps, I used to take it before I gave up gluten as it caused me cramps amongst other things regularly before I knew what was causing it.

Shinygoldbauble · 05/10/2020 07:01

Thanks everyone.
Seems to be just a regular vomiting bug, started vomiting a couple of hours ago.
Still have cramps but not as bad as earlier.
