Glasses wearers

Random question for glasses wearers.

Has anyone ever deliberately broken your glasses? I don't wear glasses, so it hasn't happened to me. I am curious as to how often it does happen.

Never deliberately, but twice accidentally 🙄.

Marmite27 · 02/10/2020 13:42

My puppy chewed mine when I was 19. Pretty sure he did it deliberately.

UnitedRoad · 02/10/2020 13:42

Yes. Well, I don’t think it was deliberately to break them, but they smashed a dinner plate forcefully in my face, causing them to come apart where they join to keep the lenses in, and to kind of buckle across the bridge. Also broke my nose.

They were my only pair of glasses, apart from an out of date pair of prescription sunglasses, and I’m really short sighted. The next day my husband took me to the optician, leading me like a donkey, and they were so so lovely. One took my broken glasses, made them temporarily wearable and cleaned off all the food, the optician gave me an eye test, you normally have to book, and ordered me two pairs of glasses for the next day for a ridiculously cheap price. No one said anything about my smashed up face.

I don’t know why I’m crying writing this.

Had mine nicked from a school bag.
Broke them last year falling down when in a walk.
Why are you asking?

iklboo · 02/10/2020 13:47

@UnitedRoad Thanks for you.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 02/10/2020 13:52

Ds snapped mine when he was 2. We'd just arrived at a caravan for a week's holiday and I put my glasses on the table (I always take them off when I'm inside) and he grabbed them and snapped them in half through one of the lenses. Luckily my eyesight wasn't that poor!

Other than that, no-one has ever deliberately or accidentally broken my glasses.

WinWinnieTheWay · 02/10/2020 14:03

My dog has ruined a couple of pairs, but I don't think she was being vindictive.

lboogy · 02/10/2020 14:06

I don't know about deliberately broken them but I have sat on them and ruined them to the point I needed a new pair

KatherineJaneway · 02/10/2020 14:07

Never as an adult but they would have done it at school had I worn them then. Cunts.

northbacchus · 02/10/2020 14:17

Yes, a nasty girl when I was in school broke them (“trying them on”), then turned on the tears and offered about 10 pence to replace them!

My baby daughter has broken 2 pairs of glasses now, seems to have an eye! for my more expensive pairs

NoseRinger · 02/10/2020 14:36

@fluffiphlox I am curious, as it occurred to me the other day those with glasses would be very vulnerable in a fight.

My DD snapped mine in half when she was a baby.

WunWun · 02/10/2020 14:38

Do you get in a lot of fights?!

iklboo · 02/10/2020 14:46

@NoseRinger I've never been in a fight in my life.

NoseRinger · 02/10/2020 14:49

@WunWun

Not at all. I was watching a film a while back and it happened.

Friend (teacher) had hers broken by a child in a primary school. I've never had mine broken.

MikeUniformMike · 02/10/2020 14:54

Something I've noticed with specs and sunglasses is if I leave them on the coffee table, someone will turn them over so that the lenses are in direct contact with the surface. A bit silly given that the lenses are delicate and the reason for having the frames.

RWeatherwax · 02/10/2020 14:55

Yeah, a school bully took mine and stamped on them. Nasty bitch

movingonup20 · 02/10/2020 15:11

No, Worn them for 30 years

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 02/10/2020 15:15

yes, in the psychiatric unit. he grabbed them off my face, threw them to the floor and stamped on them. Id only had them two days at that point. It was a difficult time for us all there

fluffiphlox · 02/10/2020 15:44

Thanks for answering but I have never been in a fight and I don’t intend to start now!

LollipopViolet · 02/10/2020 16:00

I was bullied a lot in high school. First thing anyone who beat me up would do, was knock my glasses off my face so I couldn't see. Never deliberately broke them though, fortunately because I'm registered partially sighted so it wouldn't be a good situation to have been in.

I've had them scratched accidentally in primary school and broken and bent them myself by accident. I now always have spare pairs.

ClarencesMum · 02/10/2020 16:03

It is one of my worst fears. I cannot function without them.

One night when u was 15 at s bus stop there was a group of guys who surrounded me, took my glasses and passed them round laughing at how little they could see through them. They eventually gave me them back and I got in the bus home. I was terrified but I knew I could make it on the bus (little town one one an hour) and home if need be without them. It still makes me mad now!

FunTimes2020 · 02/10/2020 16:13

@VictoriaBun

Tell us your story op ? ( Hope your ok )
The OP said they don't wear glasses so has not happened to them. Do you need glasses? Grin
Aisforharlot · 02/10/2020 16:51

No, but have broken them multiple times (and once had a dream in which I correctly predicted they would break the next day, and how)
