DH's poop smells like ammonia / chemicals?

Posting in here for traffic as I'm worried about this. Noticed for a while now that when DH has been to the bathroom (No2) and I've been in after him that it smells strongly of ammonia or something? It is very like the smell you get at the hairdressers when people are getting perms and and their hair bleached or maybe like immac hair removal cream (which I haven't used for 20 years). He isn't using any sprays or toilet cleaner after so its not that.

Any idea if we should be worried about awful chemical smell from his poop?

Is he low carbing?

Ketones can affect the smell, apparently.

@DizzyPigeon No he is pretty much veggie although his does eat meat now and again.

Hmm. I would be tempted to get it checked out, just to make sure it's nothing serious.

Gallstones cause this smell!

Hendosbook · 29/09/2020 10:56

Hmm, gallstones. I don't think he has had any other symptoms of late. He is feeling tired and has a rash (Pityriasis Rosea) but aside from that he has been fine.

I'll try and get him to see the GP

Yep lathargic and a rash, could be gallstones!

One of my sons has always had this. Even as a baby, sometimes his poo smelled really strongly of ammonia. He’s 11 now and still gets it from time to time, also sometimes his breath smells strongly too?! I did take him to the doctor who said as he’s not ill, it’s not tonsils or anything obvious in his mouth (he’d just been to the dentist) that it was potentially linked to being a bit dehydrated.

Sorry not really helpful!

Don’t gallstones come with pain?
