Our boiler packed in just before a forecast cold snap when I had a very young child a few winters ago. The boiler engineer thought it was an electrical fault and send his electrician round to try to fix it - he was here for about four hours and couldn't get it going, summoned the boiler engineer who confirmed that it was dead and needed replacing. That was on the Friday afternoon. The electrician refused to charge me a penny for his time because he hadn't fixed it. Saturday morning the doorbell goes and it's the electrician, with a plug-in oil radiator - 'My wife's been on at me to get rid of this for ages. You can keep it - just pass it on if someone else needs it after you'. The temperature dropped to about minus six that night and I don't know what we'd have done without that heater.

Years ago I made "friends" with someone on a similar online forum. We chatted on WhatsApp and FB but had never met.

OH did something really dickish which sent me in a tailspin. This woman invited me over to her house despite never meeting me,to get away for a bit and clear my head. We've been best friends ever since.

I don't think her husband has recovered yet from having a random (awfully distraught)internet woman crash at his house though.Grin
