"scary" movies for kids

My youngest dc (9) and I were talking about Halloween this morning. We've decided we'll stay in this year and watch scary movies instead of going out.
Can anyone recommend a film suitable for his age? He loves Monster House and the Spiderwick Chronicles.
Definitely not Coraline, I couldn't sit through that again.

The 50's sci fi type/horror movies can be good, mine were watching them at that age - they are really tame but I would check for yourself as you know your child. Some have been rerated, others have the original certificate but most are Pgs by today's standards

Mine recently watched poltergeist and loved it, also love the birds.

They also love the Tom Cruise war of the worlds film

Echo hocus pocus and the witches, they’re my favourite.
Other movies we watch at Halloween:
Goosebumps, monster house, frankenweenie, nightmare before Christmas, corpse bride, Caspar, Adams family, paranorman.
