Deodorant that actually works?

CodenameVillanelle · 24/09/2020 10:35

Been using sure but I start smelling of BO half way through a workout and if I get a bit warm during the day...pointless. Can anyone recommend a deodorant that actually works?? Don't mind reapplying but it should be able to get through an hour!
Thanks

I use Dove deodorant stick, the twist up one with a blue lid. I work a 12 hour nursing home shift and I don't smell.

ChloeCrocodile · 24/09/2020 13:51

Sanex 48hr (the blue one). Sure is rubbish for me - might as well not wear any. I still sweat during a proper workout, though it doesn't smell like BO. Fresh sweat has a different smell; not pleasant, but not as offensive as stale sweat!

Bigsighall · 24/09/2020 14:17

Sanex 48 hour for me too again the blue one. I think different ones work for different people.

@DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy

I use Mitchum unscented roll-on - nothing else works as well for me.
Unfortunately they appear to have changed the formula so it now stinks of old sweat and BO and dead mice 😷

Doesn't everyone?

No. I sweat lots when I exercise, but I don't smell. I use an anti-perspirant in the summer and don't bother with deodorant the rest of the time. I think it must be genetic - 15yo dd has non-smelly sweat too.

I've definitely read on here that changing from shower gel to bar soap makes people less smelly.

I have tried most and my 'problem' only started after giving birth Hmm

The only one that works on me, is Sure Maximum, it was £5.00, now it seems to be £3.00 in Tesco.

I don't wear my work tops 2 days running, due to where I work (I put them straight in the wash in case of cross infection) , but I could wear it again if I had to, if that makes sense. They still smell fresh under the arms when I get home.

If I go a day without my deodrant, its not nice.

CarelessSquid07A · 24/09/2020 14:30

Pitrock roll on for me.

Lasts really well through gardening and work outs I never notice any scent at all and I used to have to reapply at lunchtime when I used others.

I get it on subscription through Amazon so it's really easy.

Aurea · 24/09/2020 14:30

This natural deodorant is fab! No BO smells even after heavy exercise and the scent is lovely. It was designed by and for west end performers and dancers so has to be effective.

Also Sure 72 hours. Also only use bar soap in the shower to wash armpits.

CyberPixie · 24/09/2020 14:34

Purax extra strong. Only need to use once a week.

No! I sweat a lot but it doesn’t smell of much while I’m sweating. I find BO tends to be from stale/dry sweat.

OP I use Mitchum as well, I also like Secret deodorant which is American but you can get it on amazon.

Give your armpits a good scrub when in the shower with a wash cloth or loofah of whatever you use - I find sometimes that deodorant can build up on the skin and makes the new deo less effective (this is just me though, not actual science haha)

Bygone · 24/09/2020 14:39

I should say I have tried 'most supermarket ones'

I would like to try the more natural ones above, but worry they won't work. I might have to try one.

Bernardstolemywatch · 24/09/2020 14:41

I use soap, shower gel doesn’t get me clean enough then pretty much any deodorant does the job for me.
I do switch products as well as I think over time products tend to lose their effectiveness.

I second this, I have tried everything to prevent sweating and this works brilliant.

There's a bit more to it than just which deodorant

As pp said use a washcloth/loofah to remove old buildup and any dead skin, try antibacterial bar soap like Dettol (they do a sensitive version at Savers) or Cidal

Dry the pits thoroughly before applying minimum 48 hour deodorant then wait for pits to dry before putting a fresh top on.

For added assurance a bit of body powder helps in summer or on really active days

Hope that helps.

passthemustard · 24/09/2020 17:08

@JamieLeeCurtains I've been using this one for years, no issues but recently I've noticed it's no as effective as it has been. I was wondering if I'd become 'immune' to it 😬

AlwaysLatte · 24/09/2020 17:09

Dove invisible roll on is great.

SpookyNoise · 24/09/2020 17:09

I use Mitchum, but I have to rotate the scents otherwise I find they stop working.

speakout · 24/09/2020 17:11

OP what is your washing routine?

I sweat a great deal at the gym but I dont smell.
I have a shower in the morning before I leave the house, and my armpits get lathered up with bar soap and rinsed well.

I dry well and put a small amount of talc on.

I rarely use deoderant.

I know my armpits don't smell- I have a brutally honest 20 year old DD.

LadyCatStark · 24/09/2020 17:31

Triple Dry and it smells like holidays 😊
I also find that Mitchum stops working after a while, my body must find a way round it 🙈

LadyCatStark · 24/09/2020 17:32

Also find it’s very important to use a proper bar soap, not shower gel and definitely not Dove.

weegiemum · 24/09/2020 17:38

I use Dove stick and it's great. Easy to apply under my saggy boobs too before the bra goes on. Much less swear and smell, would highly recommend!
