“So-and-so’s dad has special sugar that’s not legal in this country. It makes you really hyper.”

Does your brain go to so-and-so’s dad selling or using drugs? And what would you do about it?

Mine have said some corkers over the years. I’m very glad teachers and friends haven’t jumped to some terrible conclusions Confused

I'd assume drugs. I've seen a 6 year old in school show me how to roll a joint.

Bikingbear · 20/09/2020 12:48

It could be drugs or a completely innocent explanation.

What would I do?

TBH I'd ask the parents. See how plausible their explanation is.

Mine thought cola was practically illegal for children until they were about six.

All the sweet stuff we wanted DD to avoid had cheese in it. She hated cheese.

Kinder Eggs are illegal in the US. There are all sorts of weird laws like that.

Regularsizedrudy · 20/09/2020 13:40

I would assume foreign sweets. ...as I’m pretty sure cocaine is illegal in all countries not just here 😂

I’ve just had to sit through a shed load of safeguarding training, so I would assume it was drugs (speed, probably, from the ‘makes you hyper’ comment). I would raise it as a safeguarding concern if it was in work.
If it was at home I don’t know. Probably mention it at school if at school if I saw the teacher.
But then I’m so scared of missing a safeguarding thing I’d probably report my own mother, so I may not have the best perspective to be honest!!

It’s also perfectly possible it’s mega-sweet Indian-style sweets like Gulab jamun or jalebi. Those make me feel crazy. I can imagine the effect on my eight year old.
