How much do you pay for hygienist?

My hygienist has put their prices up from £52 to £62. Seems a bit steep to me?

I'm in south east London. Just wondering if I can shop around.... do I need to be registered? I believe my hygienist is private so I wouldn't have thought it would be an issue?

How much are others paying?

Central London, £90

RandomMess · 14/09/2020 17:51

Was £35 now £80 due to Covid...

Mrsjayy · 14/09/2020 17:55

My Dentist isn't opened for routine treatment s yet so I doubt the hygienist is working either she covers a few dentist surgeries.

RandomMess · 14/09/2020 18:01

Our hygienist is back before the dentist.

I am still in fear of getting toothache...

Bingowin · 14/09/2020 20:24

Wow...£35 to £80?! That's a huge increase,they will lose lots of custom I reckon.

Have you looked at Denplan? I pay £15 a month and that gets me 2x check ups (with xrays) and 2x hygiene appointments at a private dentist a year (west London).

Titsywoo · 14/09/2020 20:39

£58 at a private dentist practice - that's for 40 mins (Surrey)

RandomMess · 14/09/2020 21:18

No rinsing at mine due to Covid.

The precautions were:

Only one patient in the practice at a time
2 hygiene assistants - I think they were alternating between 2 rooms so clean down between patients.
Hygienist
Receptionist

Only manual scrape which is fine with me as the cold water hurts my teeth. Lovely polish after.

I can see why it was £80!

GlowStickWoman · 14/09/2020 21:18

Midlands. £57 for 20 minutes.

chipsandgin · 14/09/2020 21:22

It used to be something that took 30 minutes. Now with the extra cleaning, high level PPE etc each patient will take up a 2 hour slot with a lot of additional expense and time involved - that’s nobody’s fault, it’s just the current situation. A £10 hike sounds IMO.

Cissyandflora · 14/09/2020 21:24

Mine is around £110. London and private. I haven’t been since Covid times so I don’t know whether prices will have gone up. I’ve paid the same for the past 10 years or so. Always just over 100.

Bingowin · 14/09/2020 22:39

@LilyE1234 that sounds good. I used to have a payment plan for the hygienist but they got rid of it for some reason. I'd much rather pay monthly for all of my appointments. Not such a shock then!
