Mercedes A Class safe with baby seat?

Does anyone know if the Mercedes A class are safe to use with baby seats in the back seat? As in, so they have airbags in the rear doors on the side? I have tried to look up online but no clear information. I understand that in some cars you have to switch off the rear air bags before using a car seat, but many cars don't have airbags located in the rear doors.

Thanks

I don’t have a Merc but it seems very straightforward to just turn off the airbag if needed?

You would think so wouldnt you! It's a hire car and there's no full instruction manual and details online are unclear...

Oh. I thought you were looking into buying one.

Have you actually picked up the car already? If not, then it’s hard to tell as specs differ between countries and options. You might also find that you’re offered another car as rental places often do that so it could be an Audi or BMW or anything else even if you’ve booked a Merc.

Yes it's already hired. It's a car hire app and they are all new Merc A-class. It has a whizz Siri type voice command which you can apparently ask anything, but not this!

I’d be very surprised if there is a car on the market today that isn’t safe for child seats.

Is there an isofix anchor on the back seat, I’m sure I’ve heard dh say when you plug a seat in it tells the car to disable the air bags.

He works for them.

I have a A Class and it does have the isofix seats.

Right he’s text me, merc seats talk to the car but he’s not so sure about normal baby seats but most people won’t have a merc baby seat.

Have you plugged the seat into the isofix?.

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/09/2020 19:27

Dh says fine if it’s isofix.

Our cars a coupe and the isofix are both in the back. You’d have to be supple to get a squirming toddler in the back of it.

Thank you all. The problem is we are not using isofix. We have a cybex rear facing baby car seat which you can fit using the car seat belts. There is a separate isofix base section which you can buy as an extra option, but as we don't own a car and live in a flat we only use hire cars occasionally and when we do we have to trek over to collect the car with all our stuff, so we chose not to buy the isofix extra base thing and just use the seat belt option.

This is why I'm a bit confused! Why oh why isn't this clear in the manual or online! I'm scared it don't be safe.

Like I said, I would be very surprised if any manufacturer made a car that wasn’t safe for car seats, let alone a top end one like Mercedes. Maybe ring a Mercedes dealership to ask for confirmation to allay your worries.
