Hello, can anyone recommend a Spanish resort where we can go for Xmas and New Year. Looking for somewhere we can get a villa but there still be plenty of restaurants around. Ideally close to the beach.

In normal times I would consider The Canaries, all year round resorts mostly older tourists in winter so not rowdy even in holiday areas.
Warmer climate and still restaurants and bars open in holiday areas.
Have been to most of them so could give some advice, any specific requirements for your party

Thank you, looking for mainland Spain really as we can drive there.

I agree with PP, we usually go to Lanzarote in December, last year the lowest temp was 22 highest 26. Southern Spain is the warmest year round if you want mainland - Andalusia including Costa del Sol, Seville, Cordoba, Granada etc.

Is there a reason you need to drive?
Flights are reasonable to canaries and its really easy and cheap to hire a car once you are there.
As far as I can see the only mainland places that really fit your requirements are possibly reasonably near Benidorm which is open again all year round or near Barcelona where you get the city which has the restaurants etc.
The area around Seville and Granada is beautiful but obviously has no beach and is much colder but depends if you want to sit outside with a pool or do sightseeing and walking.

We live in the south of France and would prefer not to fly in case lockdown happens again then we could easily drive back home. We had considered Benidorm but have friends there who have said nothing is open due to local restrictions.

If I lived in the south of France I'd stay in the south of France 😂

I understand now agree with your reasoning. The covid situation is as you know fluid and things can change pretty much overnight with lockdown etc.
Is there nowhere in France that meets your requirements such as Nice or a similar area.
Are you UK passport holders as its probable that due to the Brexit muckup things may be different on the borders if you are intending to be away over the new year as well.

Birdladybird · 09/09/2020 15:44

@happystory i can see why you'd think that but in december it will be cold and raining. Its really quite grim. Plus working in a restaurant we like to get away from all the people we know Grin

@starisnotanumber we are UK passport holders but also have permanent French residency permits. Although a good point I hadn't thought of. There are plenty of ways through from Spain to France which are unchecked, in fact most of them!

If you are OK driving a distance have you considered around Lisbon in Portugal.
Has a beach plus is a city so should have open restaurants etc.
Other possibility are near Alicante or Valencia in Spain

I would suggest the Canary Islands as they are less likely to still have quarantine. Try to book with a cancellation option if you can.
