Car Park Charges Puzzle

I’m planning a day at the coast, arriving at the car park at 8.30am and leaving at 12.30 in the afternoon. According to the below car park charges, how much can I expect to pay?

Daytime charges 9am to 4.59pm

1hr £2
2hr £4
3hr £5
All day £6

Evening charges 5pm to 8.59am
£2

Ah I see.

When you pay, don't rush putting the money in and keep an eye on the expiry time because sometimes it seems to take less money to pay for the time you want. After all this you might get beyond 12.30 for £6 anyway.

Or pay by card or phone, many, but not all car park machines have caught up with the 21st century fact that hardly anyone carries £6-8 in change unless they've made a special effort to obtain it.

Will do! We're going Friday so I'll update what the machine does for anyone who's interested Smile

I agree that 9am is late to start the "day" rate. But it's exactly the same concept as a car park that has an 8pm-8am evening charge.

It's more profitable for the car park this way though robbing bastards

So how much did I pay in the end? £6.20

When I got there the 'all day' charge was actually written as '24 hours' and I paid via the app which charges an extra 20p service charge.

Four weeks ago our beautiful big boy dog took ill suddenly with a cancerous tumour and passed away a week later. Yesterday, as we walked along the beach, my DP carried his urn in his backpack while our other dogs jumped waves and chased seagulls, just like he used to do!

£6. Night rate only applies if you arrive and depart within the stated times not one or the other. I've worked nights for 20+ years and this is how it's worked in every car park I have ever used.
