Is this the most middle aged, middle class thing ever?

I’ve just spent my lunch break sewing a kindle pocket into the inside of my gilet!

It can now go out and about with me without the need for a handbag.

What has my life become? GrinGrin

@MaMisled

Ive ordered a gilet/bodywarmer online. Colour name is beetroot.

I think owning a beetroot gilet makes me officially past it.

Only if twinned with mustard cords.

My gilet is a cycling one, so it's like a thin, quite useless, armless pac a mac that is showerproof at best. I'm not sure what purpose it is supposed to serve.

I also have a puffa jacket type bodywarmer that is stuffed in a wardrobe now and I now need to go get it out to investigate a. existing pockets, b. potential usefulness for my daily walk, as I'm probably the only person in the country who's still partaking and c. if aforementioned existing pockets are insufficient, the potential for addition of a kindle pocket.

But OP, I have one question - where do you imagine taking your kindle out to, while wearing your gilet?

MrsRexVandeKamp · 03/09/2020 14:50

@KatyMac if you make womenswear, your niche could just be putting ANY pocket in everything you make!

My husband always laughs when I get so excited because something has pockets, he has no idea of the hardships we suffer 😏

MaMisled · 03/09/2020 14:51

I'll cancel the cords then!

To me that sounds like it makes you officially posh, not past it at all.
KatyMac · 03/09/2020 14:53

@MrsRexVandeKamp poxkets are already a thing for me.....and getting them in to my upcycled clothes is a huge aim!

Just made DD a playsuit with pockets (she is 22)

Mochudhu · 03/09/2020 14:55

Genius! Does it attach with Velcro so you can move it from jacket to jacket (or gilet to gilet)?

I too call it a bodywarmer.

Gilet always conjours up a picture of Gilout in Spiral :-)

No, sewed in @Mochudhu

@BarbaraofSeville (marvellous name) - I wear my gilet when cycling, when I find a jacket just too warm. Now I can add my kindle and stop off for a cuppa and a cake somewhere and read a few chapters before continuing.

People who pronounce the "t", do you say jheelette or Gillit?

Namechangeforthis88 · 03/09/2020 15:07

I have never experienced having a cold core and but arms that were too hot. Never. And I spend plenty of time outdoors.

FunTimes2020 · 03/09/2020 15:29

@CormoranStrike

Look how cheerful it is!
Very nice but won't you look all lumpy to the uninitiated? Grin
haba · 03/09/2020 15:34

Ooh, that is a thing of beauty! What a great idea

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/09/2020 15:37

I have never experienced having a cold core and but arms that were too hot. Never. And I spend plenty of time outdoors. You lucky bugger.

Being peri menopausal did it for me. That and walking forest tracks in the depths of winter with a camera, and now a dog!

It also means I can throw it on over a dress and leggings, and take the dog for a walk,. Meaning only 1 set of pockets to be loaded with poo bags and treats Smile

AlCalavicci · 03/09/2020 17:06

Ooh I have lots of bodywarmers i the past ( working class so i am not allowed to call them gilet ) they were great when i walked my dog . And for movement when playing pingpong outside . I have had puffer , leather , denim and fleece ones.

I love the pocket idea , it would of swung it for me if I was trying to choose between 2 .

CormoranStrike · 03/09/2020 20:11

Lumpy? Nah, ‘tis only a kindle. I have the small outer pockets jam packed most days anyway. So it will match haha

For those advocating poachers pockets - they are all very well until you sit down. Sitting on a kindle would probably be a one time mistake. Anyway if you put the kindle in the poachers pocket where do you put the newspaper?

CormoranStrike · 06/09/2020 20:04

Little update for those who were kind enough to read and comment - the kindle pocket has worked very well on its first outing, and I am reading Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club in a lovely location
