Considering this op to relieve myself of my ingrown toenail.

It's been a real problem for three years now and I do have it professionally dealt with but everything has been tried and it's not going to get any better.

If you've had the toenail fully removed, which is what I will have to do, was it a good decision ?

I had mine removed as a teenager. I have ingrowing big toe nails which were never a problem, but I had an accident with one and I ended up having the op to fully remove it. It did grow back and now has three sides. I have to remove the two side sides myself periodically as it’s uncomfortable. Then it hurts when I do that for a couple of days, then it’s OK. I probably should have it removed again, but I am still able to contort myself into a position where I can perform this surgery on myself!! But am conscious that I may not be able to do this when I’m older (50 currently - so bear in mind I had the op a long time ago!!)

I was referred years ago by my GP to the NHS podiatry team who stated my ingrown toe nail would need to be removed. I just said no thanks and left. I then went back to my GP seurgery where I had a locus who gave me the number of a local Chiropodist who spent a few painful sessions sorting my big toe out and now it's completely normal again.
