Feeling very accomplished this morning

A little brag, if I may?

So far this morning I have :

Prepared the carcasses from yesterday's roast chicken to make a stock which is the base for tonight's chicken and bacon broth dinner

Made 8 individual chicken and vegetable pies from the leftover meat, to be popped in the freezer for future dinners

Meal planned for the entirety of September and made a shopping list of non perishable items required to achieve this, so the weekly shop will just be bread/milk/fruit/veg

Baked a cake

Cleaned my kitchen

I had big plans to get a lie in today but for some reason I woke up really motivated, so here I am...this afternoon will be a games afternoon with the kids so we get some quality time together - poor little souls have been somewhat neglected of parental affection for the majority of the holidays as husband and I have juggled childcare and working from home, so I want them to enjoy this last week off before they go back to school.

Oh, and I've popped a washload on and have another lot on the line drying!

I’m very impressed OP, well done.

The mythical Mumsnet chicken lives!

I love mornings like that! Bank holiday well spent op.

Sadly I’m still in jimjams drinking coffee, must get ready at some point!

Averyslover · 31/08/2020 10:17

I’m with you op. I haven’t done as much as you at all but housework is done, washing on line, cheesecake made and a cake baking in the oven. I need to make some flatbreads and toast some veg for lunch and try and book a tip run for this week. I’m going to hoover out the car whilst the weather is nice. When the teenagers emerge from their pits at lunchtime I’m going to hoover the bedrooms and then I’m done. I can enjoy a nice dog walk knowing it’s all done and then an evening relaxing.

I sometimes have mornings like that. Today is not one of them thoughGrin

I love the idea of making individual pies for the freezer. I am currently trying to empty one freezer as it desperately needs defrosting but my plan is to fill it full of delicious things for easy winter meals. You wouldn't care to share your recipe and any pie making tips would you? I am also now going to get out bed and get on with my day Blush

Glittertwins · 31/08/2020 10:30

We were up early as we're waiting on someone to come round but we've emptied a bedroom completely, hacked back the triffids in the garden so we can actually get to the shed to put garden furniture away and now have the washing on. Next stop B&Q- what a lifestyle!

Glittertwins · 31/08/2020 10:31

And cleaned two bathrooms

Nunyabusiness · 31/08/2020 10:35

I'm not sure that it's a mythical Mumsnet chicken I'm afraid - it's actually two chickens as yesterday's roast fed eight, there's no way one chicken would have fed us all and meant leftoversSmile

Well done to everyone else who has also had a productive start to the day, and to those who haven't - that's ok too. Sometimes you just need a day to chill out and that's equally important for the soul!

Pie recipe - I'm winging it! I've got ready roll shortcrust pastry and individual foil pie cases, my intention is to siphon some of the stock that's in the slow cooker (chicken carcass, onion, celery, carrots) and thicken it up into a chicken gravy, then I'll cook small diced carrot and add some peas as well, chuck in the leftover meat and BOOM it's a pie - I'll let you know how I get on!

I take my bag of to you OP, I’m jealous!

Meanwhile I’m still in my pyjamas currently eating 2 Tunnocks Tea Cakes and been watching what feels like 20 hours of CBeebies with DS. Hoping to finish painting the garden wall this afternoon!

I like the 'wing it' approach to the pie making. I think I can manage that. Sometimes I delay doing stuff as I overthink things like finding the perfect recipe which inevitably has a million ingredients that I don't have in the cupboard. I think I can manage chicken and peas. Might even throw in some carrots too. Thanks for the inspiration Smile

Onion would be nice, or leek goes well with chicken. Also bacon. Sweet potato perhaps to bulk it out.
MsEllany · 31/08/2020 12:55

I’m especially impressed with the stock.

I made a massive pot of tagine yesterday and decided to make stock from the bones.

I forgot about it and the whole thing boiled dry. D’oh!
