Does anyone else remember this ridiculously judgy TV game show?

I'm sure I'm not imagining it. It could've been up to twenty years ago or something. It was possibly a one-off rather than a series.

Basically there were five contestants who wanted to win £50,000. The judging panel was made up of members of the public who asked them questions about their life in a few rounds. There was also a scene where each contestant was in a taxi, found a lost phone and had to return it to the owner.

The panel then decided who they thought was worthy of winning the money Hmm Sorry, I know it sounds horrible but it definitely happened.

Nothing on that list rings a bell but you never know.

It definitely happened.

Funnily enough, I was thinking about this the other day...

Liza Tarbuck presented didn’t she? It was actually very interesting to see the ‘deserving poor’ defined by the panel. The fun for the audience at home was in the predicting Wink But yes, shocking premise.

Yes that was it! I must've just watched one episode then. Can't believe they made two entire series!

Horrendously judgy programme. I remember they asked them for their views on some political issues. In the episode I watched, the winner said she'd spend it on a diamond ring.

Who on Earth thought it was a good idea? It must've been awful.

OMG. Series 2 is actually on the Channel 4 website. Do I really want to watch it, or will spend the whole hour thinking WTF, how did they let this happen?

I remember one - the last 2 deserving? Candidates were a wealthier type man who seemed altruistic and a decent ex army woman who had had a hard life . They decided to give it to the man as they thought he would make better use of it. On winning he then told them he would buy 2 pedigree dogs to commemorate his win.

I remember it. Someone in the taxi tried to keep the phone and the reveal of that was horrible and awkward.

Yes I remember that too, so we must've watched the same episode, unless it happened in more than one. It was in the first series though, I know because they changed the prize money for the second series, and the ones on the website are all from series 2.

There was also a couple who looked very well off with a nice house and car etc, and the panel said no to them because they looked comfortable enough, and someone else would've needed the money more. The couple said "I wish you can see how hard we've worked" which nobody was disputing, just that they seemed financially okay already so it would be kinder to give the money to someone else.
