Taunton: give me your best suggestions near train station?

What would be nice to do within half hour walk to the train station?

Park or pub or whatever?

Unfortunately, the area around the station's pretty dismal, and Vivary Park is up at the other end of town.

When you say 'nice', do you mean 'nicer than sitting at the train station, if it's not raining'? If so, you could go up towards the main shopping street and turn off into Goodland Gardens just at the bridge. Wander through, cut past the Museum of Somerset and up to the castle area or Corporation Street, where there are (or were) some cafes and pubs.

TBH the last time my train was delayed at Taunton (my parents live there), I just went to the nearby Pizza Express and drank wine whilst reading the papers. Worked for me.

The only thing I'd do in that immediate area is go to St Andrew's church if it's open. Most of Taunton is within a 30 minute walk, what kind of thing are you looking to do?!

Museum of Somerset. They have a nice seating area outside with a cafe. You’d need to book in advance at the moment though to go inside the museum.

Seeing an old friend! Honestly can't remember Taunton.

So pizza express is fairly near? It's my turn to visit her.

Thanks for suggestions.
