Does past anorexia always mean it will be hard to get pregnant

Dn is 30 and has been trying to get pregnant for over a year. She’s panicking that she won’t be able to due to her history of anorexia. She was a very low weight in her early and mid 20’. She’s been a healthy weight of bmi 20 for two years now. The gp isn’t being particularly helpful.

I’m sorry to hear that. I have a history of anorexia and have had two pregnancies, both when I was still suffering and very underweight (neither were planned) so it’s definitely possible for fertility to remain unaffected. Fertility issues are really common though so even if there is something more going on it may well be completely unrelated to her anorexia. Please tell her not to blame herself if she does find that there’s something wrong. Also, I believe that up to a year is pretty normal for people TTC? In which case she’s only just at that point so hopefully she’ll get a positive test soon.

I’ve had two normal pregnancies and no trouble conceiving despite 20yrs of anorexia and still being a bit underweight. The difficulties your dn is having may have nothing to do with her eating struggles. I wish her good luck.
