Would you go for a jog at night?

Sometimes I can't be bothered to exercise during the day but I get a sudden rush of energy in the evening or at night and need to burn it off. I do sometimes go jogging in the evening but never really been at night before.

Also how late is too late? And yes I do overthink things Smile.

I wouldnt but

I live very rurally and I'm terrified of noises in the dark. Also, it takes me a very long time to get to sleep if I work out on an evening. I run at 530am which sets me up for the day grand. In the next couple of weeks the time will start stretching to nearer 6am as the morning darkness is there

sayhellotothelittlefella · 24/08/2020 15:17

Yes I often have especially when my children were younger and I was training for a race so I had to fit a run in. I stick to well lit pavements and sometimes leave as late as 9pm. During lockdown I left after 8 and ran a half marathon so I was still out running until nearly 10pm. However it was when the days were longer and we live in a very safe area. I think anytime is better than never.

Bmidreams · 24/08/2020 15:18

I don't feel safe in my area unfortunately, especially as I need music to run to. I suppose I could run along main roads.

fellrunner85 · 24/08/2020 15:18

Yes, all the time. I don't think there's such a thing as "too late."

TeaAndHobnob · 24/08/2020 15:21

Yes. I've left the house at 10pm before now to go running - like you say, late night burst of energy.

I don't live in a particularly "nice" area but I see no problem with it. I wouldn't run across an unlit park, but normal residential roads would be fine.

CookieSW · 24/08/2020 15:30

Yes have done- its nicer and quieter and fresher in the summer time.
The most realistic risk is traffic so I would suggest wearing something hi vis for when you run near traffic and make sure its well lit for you so you can see where you are treading.

JoJoSM2 · 25/08/2020 15:02

I’ve got lit up streets and pavements so I’ve been out for jogs/walks at 10ish before.

Aloethere · 25/08/2020 15:08

I go about at about 10. I live in a small town in Ireland and have never felt unsafe here so it's not something I think twice about.

User0ne · 25/08/2020 16:12

Yes I love running at night. We have a choice of great moors, woods and footpaths where we live. I do have a very good headtorch though (would also double as something to whack someone with if required - no problems in 5 years)

79andnotout · 25/08/2020 16:18

Yep, all the time. I am scared of the dark but that just makes me go faster.

BusterTheBulldog · 25/08/2020 16:20

I love running at night, winter Sunday evenings are my favourite time, just switch off and unwind. Latest I go out is prob 10pm ish

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 25/08/2020 16:23

I prefer it to be honest. I just run the streets though. In the daytime I will run in the woods etc, but I wouldn't do that at night. I wouldn't be able to see for a start.

Flyinggeese · 25/08/2020 16:29

I go about 9pm or 10pm, much prefer it to daytime, so yes but I stick to well lit roads.

Cybercubed · 25/08/2020 16:33

Ran at 11:30pm the other night. Perfectly fine.

randomsabreuse · 25/08/2020 16:33

I try to aim to be back by 9, stick to busier residential streets and avoid canal tow path if not back before dark.

emmathedilemma · 25/08/2020 16:34

I wouldn't myself as I don't have that late surge of energy but if i did I would.

Elbels · 25/08/2020 16:34

Yes, I do it all the time.

BogRollBOGOF · 25/08/2020 16:40

I did C25k at night once baby was done with the night feeds, at 10 or 11pm.
I normally have enough time in the daytime so rarely do it, but I do enjoy "Christmas light runs" in December.

I live in a dozy suburb, well lit. I wouldn't do trails at night, mainly from the risk of tripping. Hi-viz, LEDs and a chest light are great for being clearly seen.

AuntMasha · 25/08/2020 17:51

Yes, I do. I went for a jog at about 3.30am once because I couldn’t sleep. If anything, it’s safer - no people, no bikes, no cars, no other joggers.

Somanysocks · 25/08/2020 17:57

I have only ever been jogging at night because I don't want to be seen. I live in a town so mostly built up.

garlictwist · 25/08/2020 19:16

Not at night but I do run at 430am before work so it's pretty much night! Dark for about 9 months of the year at that time and a lot of drunk people about heckling (I live in a student area). It's the only time I can go though and I've done it for 20 years now and nothing bad has happened (touch wood).
