How else can you sit other than on your arse?

I see "sat on his/her arse" thrown about on threads as a mild insult, usually when someone is being accused of being lazy or unproductive or just generally annoying.

How else do people sit if not on their arses? Why is Mumsnet so anti-sitting?

I sit on my hip.

AnneLovesGilbert · 24/08/2020 14:21

I sit on my feet.

BackwardsGoing · 24/08/2020 14:22

Really? Struggling to picture that!

@AnneLovesGilbert isn't that called standing?

OuterSpaceGirl · 24/08/2020 14:23

Obviously, it’s the opposite of being very busy ‘stood in your feet’

AnneLovesGilbert · 24/08/2020 14:27

It’s more like kneeling. I’m sitting but my arse is on top of my feet. So I’m sitting on my feet.

tiredanddangerous · 24/08/2020 14:28

I'm currently sitting on my foot. Very comfy but I'll eventually end up with dreadful pins and needles.

BackwardsGoing · 24/08/2020 14:29

But if your arse is on your foot you are sitting on your arse on your foot.

The sit is redundant in the context. Bit like very unique.

If the criticism was "on you over there on your arse" it would be better.

TSSDNCOP · 24/08/2020 14:31

Oi, not on

DustyMaiden · 24/08/2020 14:33

It has connotations of lazy arse.

WorraLiberty · 24/08/2020 14:35

Can you really sit on your arse though?

I mean surely you'd have to have another arse in order to sit on your arse?

BackwardsGoing · 24/08/2020 14:51

Is sitting on one's foot or hip less lazy?

OP posts:
EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 24/08/2020 15:12

On your knees?

wheresmymojo · 24/08/2020 15:22

I tend to curl up on one side with legs up so I'm really sitting on my hip, thigh and I guess part of one buttock.

BackwardsGoing · 24/08/2020 16:16

@wheresmymojo is that approved of by Mumsnet? You're only sitting on half an arse so presumably are not being lazy?

Deathraystare · 25/08/2020 19:38

I used to have to sit on my hands after a surgical op!:)
Obvs still sitting on my arse though!

Pinkywoo · 25/08/2020 19:42

I broke my coccyx and couldn't sit on my arse for months!

Notverybright · 25/08/2020 19:43

Good point Worra.

Does one sit with one’s arse or on one’s arse?
