Highfield & Brookham v Churchers V Amesbury

Smile I have a 6 yr old and 3 yr old (due to start reception 2021) and moving to Liphook. We are at a good SW London prep and given large school selection in the area, have been looking at Highfield & Brookham, Churchers & Amesbury based on reputation and ISI reports. Ideally I would prefer a traditional prep but my DH has been drawn to Churchers because it’s senior school is growing in reputation. I am very keen to consider Brookham but Amesbury seems to be our half way point. Can anyone give some good honest feedback on any of these schools? My eldest DD is sporty and needs some maths support but v bubbly, kind and outgoing. I would also like a school that encourages a standard of etiquette where possible. My younger daughter is also bubbly and switched on for her age and a school that garners her confidence is critical. Husband is sports mad and keen to encourage this. I’m looking for a school that will get the best out of them academically and give them fantastic leaver choice school options for senior schools while ensuring they enjoy their school experience and make good school friends.

Highfield & Brookham And Amesbury seems to have great facilities. Facilities and campus at Churchers junior look smaller but I guess that’s reflectant in the fees. Someone mentioned that Amesbury has been struggling with head teachers and this was having an impact so again, I’d be keen to hear.

Would really love to hear some good local knowledge. Thank you! Smile

I don't have any personal experience of any of these schools but I know lots of people whose children went to Amesbury and a couple whose children went to Churcher's. In both cases it was a few years ago so it's possible that things might have changed.

Those who chose Churcher's did so expecting to send their children to the senior school (and subsequently did). They were all happy with it.

Amesbury parents all raved about it. The only disadvantage mentioned by one parent is that most of the girls left at 11. Hers stayed on until 13 so were very much in a minority during their last couple of years.

Have you also considered St Ives or The Royal ? Parents I know with children there were also happy, especially in the case of St Ives. Last year that became 'small independent school of the year'.

If I'd sent my girls private at that age it would have been to St Ives. Both my children had lots of friends from there and without exception they were lovely polite girls. Sport is very strong there too I believe.
