Dd has sore throat, slight cough. Are we supposed to get her a covid test? If so how.

Is there a number to ring?

I have reported my post. Wrong number.

Windyjuly · 23/08/2020 13:52

Ok she's booked in!
I believe it's quite unpleasant.
Hopefully it's nothing.

Now she said she's cleared her throat and said it's not sore

A sore throat is not a listed symptom, nor is a slight cough.

Get tested if she has a high temperature, a continuous cough or the loss of smell/taste.

I'm not sure they'll test for just a sore throat. Runny noses are also not considered symptoms.

IWantToBeAFairy · 23/08/2020 15:18

I believe anyone who is feeling slightly ill at the moment is being encouraged to test to rule it out. They aren't pleasant, I'm currently having them done weekly because of my job. It's over very quickly though, it may make her gag and her eyes will water

Windyjuly · 23/08/2020 16:17

I wasn't worried about the cough but I was when she had a sore throat.

I thought a sore throat was a symptom!

Not sure what a silent cough is? She has been coughing but intermittently, not excessively.

Poor thing! She probably doesn't have it and has this nasty test now.

Runny noses are considered symptoms according to NHS test and trace service. If in doubt rule it out.

RandomTree · 23/08/2020 16:20

Don't worry, the test is not that bad.

gonewiththerain · 23/08/2020 16:22

The test is fine, unless you are mid contraction when they do it.

Windyjuly · 23/08/2020 16:32

With the home kit, is it still a swab or is that a finger prick?

OP posts:
Windyjuly · 23/08/2020 16:33

She doesn't have a runny nose.

OP posts:
SuperDuperJezebel · 23/08/2020 17:28

It's a swab

Windyjuly · 23/08/2020 18:02

For anyone interested, you are handed the kit yourself and do it yourself. You do your own throat first, hold it 10 seconds then stick it up for your nose.

I have no idea why but I'd seen diagrams of people getting it done too them with swabs going right down the back of their throats!! So not bad at all.

Expect the email with a no. On it had not come through. But she still did the test.

When I had it it started with just a slight, new and regular (once every half hour or so) cough and a headache. It really felt like nothing. The temperature and loss of smell came a few days later.

I was told (by a microbiology consultant) to put the swab right to the back of my throat (past the epiglottis), then right to the back of my nose. It was quite uncomfortable but came back positive so I must have hit the right spot.
