Gifts / money - reward for good exam results

What are you giving your teens (if anything) after getting their A level and GCSE results?

We want to give our son something, and he was going to have his Reading festival ticket. But what could we give as an interesting alternative? He's notoriously hard to buy for!

We don't give ours a reward for good exam results. Surely that should be intrinsic ?

Is your ds going to University ? Do they need to replace their laptop or phone ? Have they learned to drive yet, or might some lessons be a welcome gift ?
During the pandemic it is difficult to suggest alternatives to a festival ticket - can't really see them being certain to go ahead next year even as an 'IOU'

We’re taking DD and her pal for Afternoon Tea on Sunday.

DD2 got a caterpillar cake after her GCSE's, it's what she asked for!

We went out for dinner to celebrate the end of an era but it was not contingent on getting certain results.

Oryxx · 22/08/2020 17:41

I’d take my child out to celebrate but I wouldn’t do a monetary incentive. Even back in the 90s when I was at school, I remember a friend getting £50 for a C, £75 for a B etc. I was a bit Hmm at the time and even more so now. Kids should work hard because they have an interest in their future and the motivation to do their best. Not because mummy and daddy are handing out cash.

I think it is nice to get something to remember the end of an aera, regardless of results.

I got a necklace for my A-levels.

Any tech like a smart watch, new laptop etc?

DS is getting a watch from my parents. We haven't given him anything, although I gave him a fair amount of money to go shopping with friends recently to get some nice bits for college.
