What do you do if after a day at work you feel stressed/wound up?

Ive had a good few days of hassle at work, lots of dealing with utility companies etc and lots of episodes of having to chase chase chase others for time sensitive stuff.

Each evening this week I've logged off and just felt so "pent up". I've got small dc so am in the midst of bathtime/dinner prep at and just feel so tense.

Yesterday I cracked open the wine as soon as 7pm hit.

Doesn't help I'm premenstrual and fucking starting Grin

I suspect the responses to my question will be either "go for a run" or "open the wine" - neither of which I'm able to do.

I just can't settle. I keep pacing.

Batt one out?

Clean - do some easy but instantly rewarding household job.
I feel like this. Just made the beds, stuck a washing on and going to speed tidy the living room now.

Early night & binge watch tripe on YouTube/Netflix/BBCiPlayer.

PinkyBrain · 19/08/2020 18:09

A slow run and a big gin. Sorry to hear neither of my coping strategies are any help to you op!

Bath and nice pyjamas and Mumsnet? A good Netflix series to lose yourself in when the kids are in bed? Put some headphones in, turn the music up loud and do some aggressive cleaning? What are you in the mood for?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 19/08/2020 18:13

Ok I'm tackling the play area (can't say room it's just a corner of the landing).

It needs doing, it's a quickie job and it's away from the kids (dh on patrol with them now).

I'll be back when I'm done for another idea Grin

If you can't go for a run (or at least a fast, angry walk, if your husband can take over the children for an hour) bake bread. The kneading and throwing around dough is very therapeutic when you're furious/tense.

If there's any way you can shower or take a bath as soon as you get in from work, I find this helps me to switch off from work stuff and feel calmer and more present at home. I imagine myself washing the day off. I understand this might not be possible with small children, but if you can it might help.

I think my hunger is distracting. Too close to dinner to eat. Too hungry to focus on literally anything else Grin

I listen to an audiobook during my drive home. I really get lost in the story if it’s a good one!

aibutohavethisusername · 19/08/2020 18:48

Go for a swim if I can. If not watch tv.

Tonight I will be having a cider, bar of chocolate and a long bath.

I'm having a crap period, and I'm knackered.

Snaleandthewhail · 19/08/2020 19:06

Put on a podcast and go for an angry walk.

Champagneforeveryone · 19/08/2020 19:11

I sit in my car in blissful silence for 10 minutes, and try and pretend I can't see DH and / or DS bobbing about anxiously in the window, waiting to say words at me.

Alternatively I cook which I love, though I acknowledge that's not for everyone Wink
