Oh no! My DD11 and her friend are going to see it tomorrow. Is it bad?

Elderflower14 · 19/08/2020 15:20

Can you tell us all why it's bad op!!

Elderflower14 · 19/08/2020 15:58

The puppet burns his feet off. You see the puppet hanging from a tree and you see a donkey thrown into the sea with a rock round his neck and you see it drowning... In a PG film.

It's not a Disney film. Just for clarity.

Thanks for the heads up though.

We went yesterday, and walked out after about half an hour as we did not want to watch it.

Our DC are older so the content wasn't really a problem but even so, we couldn't believe the scene showing him hanging and so on. It was very creepy overall, the scene with the coffin, the puppestmaster wanting kisses, it was all very unnerving. Totally not what we expected.

Elderflower14 · 19/08/2020 16:42

I don't think i said it was Disney...

It’s very, very odd....dubbed from Italian, but still with an Italian accent, so some of the dialogue is difficult to follow.
The costumes are amazing, but creepy, snail especially so.
My 9 yo enjoyed it, but it was definitely a WTF for my teen boys and I.

I saw the trailer. Decided it was not for me, and you've made me feel I have made the correct decision.

Elderflower14 · 19/08/2020 19:42

Forgot to mention the scene when the bat's carry Pinnochios coffin in!! 😕 😕 😕

Not yet. But I want to.
It looked good on the bbc film review program.

I loved the book as a child. It was quite disturbing and intense compared to most of the other books I read around that time. it really stuck in my mind.

Bump.…..

Well it's rated PG which stands for parental guidance so...

Have you seen Coraline? I wonder how it compares to that.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 19/08/2020 22:59

Just watched the trailer. Pinocchio looks freaky but now I really want to see it.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 19/08/2020 23:01

Omg one to avoid. My 9 year old would have nightmares.

I hated coraline...

Elderflower14 · 19/08/2020 23:21

I HATED Coraline too!!!

OP posts:
EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 19/08/2020 23:24

But would you say it's more or less scary than Coraline?

Elderflower14 · 20/08/2020 08:00

Hard to explain... I found Coraline creepy. I found Pinnochio inappropriate and unsuitable for children!

I have, no I was lying actually.

Oops there it goes...Grin

I watched the trailer with my DD, and we both decided not to go see it (unusual for us, we normally see every kids film). I can't really put my finger on what it was that I didn't like - just creepy?

I've never liked the Pinocchio story anyway - it reminds of various horrible bad anxiety dreams that I've had. Not the story itself, but the feel of the story.

I feel the same about Alice in Wonderland - especially the rabbit who's running late. That's a common anxiety dream for me.

I reckon both stories were literally 'dreamt up' by their creators.

My DD loves Coraline BTW, but I think it's basically a children's horror film, and the one genre of film that I hate is horror films!

Elderflower14 · 20/08/2020 08:24

You only see his nose grow once during the whole film!

I was going to take DS but had a quick look for reviews first and was glad I did as they made very clear that it was very dark and horror-esque in places. I do think some parents will be caught out though as I originally assumed it was just another of the Disney live-action remakes of their classic films.
